reads like this make me hope Fuente can right the ship because it really paints him in a good light as far as being forthright and honest with his players. **puts on tin foil hat** Of course I'm sure Whit had this article written to kill some of the "fire Fuente" furor /s mostly
I had all the same thoughts. It does seem like Fuente is a good guy deep down. That makes me root for him a bit more.
Don't ever not trust your gut on things that others might call tin foill. Public relations is never unplanned
True. It when else could this article be written? Would you write it about a backup?
I mean, maybe sometimes you shouldn't
Fuentes always been a stand-up guy. All you folks who thought otherwise with your pitch forks now saying "hmmm...maybe I was wrong" need to get a grip
I dont recall many people saying Fuente was not a stand up guy. There has and still remains questions regarding how good of a coach he is. This was a positive article. Both the pro-Fuente and anti-fuente groups should stop using every game/article/anecdote as a tool to bludgeon the opposing group.
Yup. Let's fully enjoy HenBOSS as our QB1

Hooker's father really provided some unique insight into the transfer portal and Fuente's relationship with a player and his family.
Fuente doesn't seem to care for bullshit. And folks who can respect that he doesn't sling it, respect him for the transparency and honesty. I enjoy working with these people. Those who just want to do the work and cut personal crap from the equation. But I know it rubs other personality types the wrong way. However, I do think part of his personality intersects at "my way or the highway". Overall it would benefit him to develop soft skills.
These thoughts aren't based on this one article. Rather, things that sprung into mind after reading it from previous conversations and articles read.
All of this..
The deal, right, all comes to winning... if we win, it's okay Fu is real and straightforward. If we lose, it's man he should be more of a salesman
All the people who love Bud (I do) and hate Fuente (I do not) need to realize Bud as a head coach would talk and act a lot like Fuente.
Bud is an amazing person to be around, which I got to do for my four years at Tech.
I always tell people that Bud oozes his passion for the sport at all times. He's funny and let's his personality out in practice.
When he's pissed and cursing you out, it doesn't bother you because you feel like you let him down.
Appreciate the insight from someone who actually got to be part of the team. Thanks for sharing and keeping it real
In my decades in the NRV, my only personal interaction with Bud was brief encounters on Claytor Lake, but I knew several folks who knew him and to a person, they'd agree with your assessment of him. His humor and personality were definitely notable, but as you mentioned, his passion for football in general, and Hokie football in particular was always on display. My biggest regret of my guiding years was that I couldn't manage to get Bud on the river with me for a fishing trip. Came close via his son, but couldn't get it done.
One thing I know, though, is that we're gonna miss him when he's gone, regardless of who comes in and how they do. Bud is one of a kind.
This post perfectly encapsulates why I love Bud and named my son after him. Thank you for sharing a firsthand account of a legend.
The world needs more Hookers.
Loyalty, Honesty and having character may not be sexy. But they do build trust! BTW: I'm not just talking about Fuente, I'm also talking about Hooker's Dad!
You hear coaches mention that a player "comes from a good family", seems to make a huge difference!
18-22 year old young men are prone to make short-term, poor decisions/choices at times! Wasn't it great that Hendon had a coach and a parent that helped him thru this process!
Reading that article makes me proud of our program at many levels...
Alan Hooker is a GREAT guy. You won't meet a nicer person.
I am all aboard the Hooker hype train. I feel like he has the physical tools and the intangibles. I know we're only two games into the Hendon era but I'm honestly excited about the future of the program with him at the helm. I couldn't say that with Jackson or Willis.
Agree 100%. Hooker looks like a potential star. He's got poise, makes some big time throws, and just has that playmaker feel to him with the ball. You feel completely different with him in the game than you did with Willis or Jackson, where it was more of manage the game and don't screw things up. Plus with Patterson showing some ability tonight, I feel really good about our QB room after tonight for sure.
So, Hooker should definitely start if healthy, but man, would anybody have QP at running back for a few plays?
I suggested this after the Duke game in the "how would you fix the team if you were fuente" thread.
Cant risk it now though. QP2 is QB2.
Hope hookers leg is ok
He was walking around the sideline after halftime without crutches and stretching things out. It is a sprain my guess.
