I got this email today from VT Football and I though it was weird that we aren't honoring Coach Foster at our last home game. We waited until the last home game to do the big tribute for Coach Beamer. Is there a good reason for this? Or is this another scenario where VT Athletics screws up honoring someone? (I'm thinking of the recent screw up honoring the '99 team)
THIS ONE'S FOR BUD
Join us on Saturday, November 9th as we celebrate the career of Coach Bud Foster during the Hokies game against Wake Forest. Stop by Hokie Village to sign a "Thank You" banner, arrive in Lane early for giveaways at the gates, and be in your seats 30 minutes prior to kickoff for a ceremony you don't want to miss!
Upon the conclusion of the season Coach Foster will continue to serve Virginia Tech Athletics in a new role reporting directly to Director of Athletics Whit Babcock working as an ambassador for the program, in addition to focusing on special initiatives and other duties as assigned. Foster currently serves as the nation's longest continuously tenured FBS assistant coach at the same school, having arrived in Blacksburg for Beamer's initial season as head coach in 1987.
In addition to single-game ticket options, we also have Fan 4-Packs available for this game against Wake Forest. Click below for ticket options.

Was Wake his last shutout of a 1A opponent?
Regulation shutout? Maybe.
Edit: not even close. In 2016, we beat BC 49-0, and in 2017 we beat ODU 38-0 and UVA 10-0.
Maybe he's talking about 2019.
Does seem a little over-optimistic, if you ask me.
They can do what they want - I will be celebrating Bud at the Pitt game

at the Pitt gameevery week just like i have been the last 30 years. You win.
I read something that said he didn't want to take away from Senior day for the Pitt game.
This has to be the reason. This sounds just like Bud.
That makes sense! Good for Bud.
I mean that's nice and all but he's pretty much the senior-est super senior out there at this point
I was going to say that he is, in fact, a senior.
Only because Wang didn't get his "Doctorate in Football" waiver approved.
Bud has plans on ruining a senior day, just not our senior day. Can't wait to listen to UVA fans bitch about us carrying him off the field at Lane North like we did with Frank.
i talked with a friend that works for the UVA alumni foundation a couple of weeks ago about Bud' last game! She had brought up that she and others had talked about having more exciting events during the UVA games. I told her that a Bud Foster party after we kick their butt would be a wonderful way to get "fans" excited at their final game. not sure it is in the works, though.
When Bud's retirement was announced in the summer, they said they would honor him at the Wake game. I believe their stated rationale was because they wanted to keep it separate from the last home game when the seniors would be honored. Note - Beamer's situation was different because by the time he announced he was retiring (the day after the BC game in 2015), we only had 1 home game left.
I agree it is odd to not honor him at the last home game though, especially since it is not like we have a large senior class. I'm sure there will be plenty of former players, fan signs, etc. at the Pitt game in honor of Bud, even if Wake is the official game he is being honored.
edit: I'll drink for that.
Good answer.
I think we're all going to drink for that. (Bud's last game, I mean)
Thanksgiving Break begins 11/23 so they are probably worried students will leave campus earlier than that leaving a lot of the stands empty.
Yea I'd put my money on this reason
Gives him more time after we honor him for him to change his mind.
Have we heard of any plans from LOLUVA to honor Bud during his last North Lane game?
I would assume we won't see Charlottesville any happier except for when they re-released Zima last year.
Perkins will honor him by putting up a QBR equal to the number of years Bud has been DC.
That's such a generous thing for Bud to do!
If Perkins plays.... 5 more weeks of being a pack mule, he might get hurt.
But I'll take his honoring in any way they seem appropriate. I'd like to see a point for every year Bud's been at VT; albeit by pick 6, strip/sack return TD, blocked kick return for TD, etc.
I expect good sell out for his last game, maybe this way they can leverage more tickets over two games.
We will be honoring him at his last home game in Lane Stadium North!
To remind him that the only time his defense allowed less than a touchdown and lost was to Wake so that he dials up a defense that somehow manages to hold Wake to negative points.
So a couple of defensive touchdowns? Sounds good to me
Because Pitt Happens.
Tall order to slow down Wake. Hope we can do it. Will be disappointed with all of the celebrations and we get thumped. Beamer's finale vs UNC still hurts.
Because he's retiring at the end of the season. He announced it back before the season started. Think it was in the news or something.
Probably something to do with the worst cheering picture in our programs history?🤔
I wanna see Foster mimic the frank pose with VT [49] [0] Wake Forest superimposed at the end of this game.
Didn't Mack juts copycat it?
Because Smithfield is the sponsor, and we are saying good bye to the HAM.
Marketing. Spread the promotions throughout the season to hopefully boost ticket sales.
