Interesting to see UVA so low, not a lot of big plays and not a lot of yards per play. We are right around the mean, which is the dotted red line.

UVa benefits from an elusive QB with a mind for the game. Perkins often makes a first down out of nothing, after making some LB miss. He's got some decent receivers who can manage to get one step away from their defender, which is enough for Perkins to make a play. It's a scrappy little offense.
Sounds like VT with Jerod Evan's, though we had more playmakers.
Tough call on QBs, though. Perk with our team then, Evans with theirs now.
Scrappy? It's a crappy offense. Terrible OL, below avg receivers & backs, not much downfield threat. It's pretty much Perkins. Which is why he's taking a beating. More like VT ala 2013 with LT3.
UVA is secret trash on offense. They have a strong defense and a QB that can carry the team when they need it.
They're basically the Tyrod era Tech teams with worse weapons on offense.

Totally - 2010 Tyrod team has offensive talent everywhere at the skill positions. Uva has 1-2 decent skill players at best outside of Perkins.

Hmmmm. Disagree on 2009 and 2010, both of those Tyrod led offenses were efficient and explosive.
I think they are similar to specifically the 2008 VT team but with less grit.
UVA has faced Duke (50), FSU(69), Miami (75), Pitt (103) and ODU (126). Those are their scoring offense rankings. They held ND 4 points below NDs average. So they arent a bad defense but their defense might be over blown due to playing terrible offensive teams.
EDIT: after last night UVA held ND to 0.6 points below their average.
I posted this in another thread but to it's starting to look like UVA is "rising" only due to the poor state of the Coastal this year. I'll give that they may be improved this year but hardly dominant in my opinion. I don't the scores but I don't think they are blowing out all these teams which a good team would. If we continue to improve I think we have a good chance of getting back to stronger wins against them. Obviously that depends on how finish the weeks prior to them but at the moment I'm feeling pretty good. If we drop the next to (ugh I really hope we don't lose to Wake though) but then beat Pitt and GT I think we'll be in good shape to take on UVA. If the team continues shape up and the defense only gets better and play with the intensity that they did against UNC then they are gonna be good when they face UVA. I can only imagine HH and QP getting better as time goes as well.
They're "rising" only because they had nowhere to go but up and being just another 2019 Coastal team is seen as relative success by their wishful thinking fanbase and a sports media always on the lookout for a cinderella story.
