The ACC network has found mixed success since its launch including some incredibly entertaining games, but also a sandwich bite counter (that's real, didn't make that one up).
Much like its referees, the ACC network is getting a dubious reputation for some questionable call. This week's issue? Wes Durham. Wes Durham's ACC power ranking this week was... head scratching to say the least.

Miami up 7 spots on a narrow win over Pitt, Louisville moves up 4 spots to 4th in the conference overall, but most surprisingly, VT moves down 6 spots to 11th overall after a bye week. Many in Hokie Nation thought that we won the bye week, but the ACC Network has other plans.

*shrug* These people get paid to throw out shit and stir controversy. Let's worry about beating Wake, GT, Pitt, and LOLUVa before we worry about where we stand on some asshat's power rankings. Also, ND victory would be a nice cherry on top, but I'm considering beating the spread and escaping South Bend with minimal injuries a win there.
Confirmed.
He might have gotten more viewing...... and even moreso....Hokie Kudos, if he would have listed us top 3.
Exactly.
This is how 90% of media works now. Say something ridiculous, drives people to the site, more clicks more money. Angry clicks pay just as well as happy clicks.
He got the attention he wanted.
I sort of feel a grudging measure of respect for him admitting it.
The ACC has a clear top 2 and bottom 3 at this point in the season and the rest you can clearly pick in any order and it won't be wrong. I'd say the biggest issues I have are UNC and FSU, but again, the ACC is pure mediocrity and parody beyond Clemson (and Wake this year).
Wake's best wins are a 6 point win over a decent UNC team and 2 point win over a mediore FSU team. It really is a top 1 and bottom 2 (Cuse and GT). But I agree on the pure mediocrity point, its crazy that no one has been able to separate into a clear 2nd top 25 tier (people though Cuse and maybe Miami at year's start but alas)
I 100% agree that Wake is not on Clemson's level, but they have won all but one of their games. That separates them from the rest of the ACC for looking dominate one week and getting shocked the next.
Can't help myself. Do you mean parity or parody, both fit equally.
Both fit, but I meant parody.
The ACC has a Top 1. Everything else is a muddled mess.
Two guys during the studio show did a Coastal top 4...like they do on ESPN for the national play off. One of them picked VT as 2nd best in coastal...the other picked them as first.
I guess it's all subjective.... and fun and games.
Who cares? Just win baby.
I mean the Miami and UNC games were one small play away from being loses. If we lost those two games, we are not only last in the ACC, but likely last in all of the power 5 conferences. Our wins would include: ODU, Furman, and Rhode Island with the largest margin of victory being 17 points...
I have no issue with being in the bottom of the ACC until we can beat a team handily. So far, everyone above us has done that.
Agree. Garbage
Guys, how do you not see this? Wes clearly used this formula
Losses: #9 and #10
Wins: #3 and #5
19-8 = 11
Well done Wes!
The most atrocious take in all of the is FSU at #6! Looks like Wes' brain is lethally simple.
If you're not first, then everybody else is tied for last
I actually enjoyed Mark Richt eating a sandwich. It was better than a lot of crap that comes out of their mouths.
You want some garbage takes? Scroll through VT articles on and read the comments on Facebook.
I've seen people saying we should bench Hooker if he's healthy for the ND game because "this game means nothing, we should save him for ACC games."
This is how you lose IQ points.
I've never ever read the comments on Facebook (and never will), but I can confirm there are other ways to lose IQ points.
Yes! Tastier ones!
Wes' dad, Woody, was the longtime voice of UNC and he practically grew up on that campus. He's on the radio weekly here in Raleigh and he is part of the 'the ACC needs to go back to 8 teams' crowd. He gave VT absolutely zero credit for beating UNC and said the Heels beat themselves that night.
Needless to say, I'm not surprised by this.
Wes wants a smaller ACC so he doesn't have to work as hard.
Yeah I've been overall pretty disappointed with the content on ACCN, but can't say I'm surprised. The football analysts like Richt and Manuel have been pretty good, but the rest is just second rate good ol Carolina boy crap dialed up straight out of Greensboro. You just get this feeling that they are in agony during football season and can't wait to talk about Carolina hoops season. The conference just has a laughably small-time perspective on its branding and content. Hence the biggest sponsor of the ACC tournament being freaking Bojangles.
Really trying to figure out how the best soccer conference in the country in both men's and women's can't get decent coverage on it's own network to fill in during football season. The Huddle was on Sunday, while a top ten game was going on a regional network. Kind of stumped...
Even if its the ACC network, its still about ratings and money. And ESPN has shown time and again that its football first, second, third, and people talking about football 4th, in terms of importance.
I understand your perspective, but do love me some Bojangles...so I definitely don't want any (at this time) undue negativity thrown their way...at least they know a good endorsement opportunity when they see it...we, as hokie faithful, are not tailgating chumps, and they want in on the action...
Personally I wouldnt call bojangles at a tailgate a win. It says I didnt have time to properly prep for this event, which is ok, life happens, Thursday night games happen. But to me you are not winning at tailgating if you are buying the prepared food.
There's a large customer base boycotting Bojangles here in Roanoke.
and the girls come out!
Local Bojangles franchise owner in the Roanoke area in dispute with Wildlife Rehabilitation Center near his property. Linky below. So make your last-minute tailgating choices appropriately....

since you posted it I'll comment. The guy is the worst kind of person. Someone who thinks he can tell other people how to use their property. And when he doesn't get his way, he tries to run for a political office so he can force the issue. That organization has been around since I was a teen and does a world of good for the local community with rehab of animals. Used it multiple times myself over the years.
It's counter intuitive on his part too if you think about it...
Wildlife Rehabilitation / Bojangles circle of Life:
Young chicken gets hurt, they nurse it back to health, it matures, it gets taken to a farm with a bunch of other healthy chickens, it becomes part of a 2 or 3 pc leg and thigh dinner meal with a side of mashed potatoes and mac and cheese.
We did win, but we also let them hang around way too long. Bye Week showed up to play and we overlooked them
Such Hokie. Much Truth.
Bye week dominated with time of possession. Damn it....we always play to the level of weaker teams.
Does any fanbase look for slights more than VT? Tell me if you would be shocked to see the final ACC standings look exactly like this.
I was going to question how you could have the final ACC standings include both divisions, until I thought about it for less than a second. 🤦♂️
But it does seem weird to me to do a combined power ranking of both divisions since we play so few cross-divisional games. I wouldn't even know how to compare Duke to BC or Pitt to FSU. It would be interesting to see a final compiled ACC standings at the end of the season with all the tie-breakers. To answer your question though, nothing in the ACC shocks me anymore
Hang around an NCSU tailgate.
However....it is a pleasure to have a TV channel and programs focused just on ACC sports and ACC football. It's not prime time ESPN and a huge national audience - the commentators and analysts reflect that. I'll take it.
We are better than FSU, and we beat Miami and UNC. Louisville sucks. Other than that, Durham nailed it
I did actually think about this! Sole purpose wasn't to rile people up, but critique some of the coverage of the new network. May have been a bit click baity in nature. Apologies if I have damage the on topic nature of the Mayo board.
Don't be distorting our Mayo signal with that noise! /S
After I posted that, I reread your post and realized that it didn't quite warrant my response. Your OP was on the other side of the line. I didn't edit it either because it serves as a good reminder or out of laziness...dealer's choice.
No worries! I think it's fair criticism.
I'm okay with this because it doesn't matter.
I've been watching that show the last couple of weeks out of curiosity.
It's like a 1980's time machine. Not in a good way. Ol' ACC boys club men acting like they just call 'em like they see 'em and yucking it up over old man humor and old 8 team ACC stories from 40 and 50 years ago.
And I'm an old guy who remembers all of those old ACC games and stories...
