Looking for some help from current or alumni Marching Virginians regarding the title of a particular stands tune. It was in heavy rotation from the MVs during my time in Blacksburg (mid 90's), and I've heard it at games I've attended since. I don't want to say "you know that song, with the instruments that goes na nana nana", but hopefully someone can connect the dots from the following description:
About 100 beats/minute, starts out with low brass funk bass line, about 2 measures long that gets carried through the whole song (until near the end). Other sections join in carrying the melody over top of the bass line, finally percussion joins and the whole thing builds to musical craziness (percussion, especially the quad drums going bonkers). If short on time, the song ends, but during extended timeouts, musical craziness drops off to just the bass line and the whole process repeats.
I'm trying to find the title, as my daughter heard it at a game, and now that she's the drum major for her high school, she wants the band to play that song in the stands next season. Thanks.

on a tangential note, does anyone know the name of the song they play which is sorta a bass riff? I would guess it is primarily tuba and base drums. Sorry, don't know any better way to describe it.

Banned in the early 2000s with the onset of Hokies Respect. The MVs would play it starting about 5 minutes left in a game that was well in hand, progressively bringing in more instruments and getting louder as you got closer to the final whistle. A nice little cherry on top of an ass kicking in Lane.
As a long ago former bandsman, I wish I got to play that song, but my band experience ended before the song was even written. As a fan, I absolutely loved the heck out of it. The way the stands got progressively fired up about the win as the song built to the crescendo...priceless. Bring it back, please. To me, the song didn't try to rub salt in the wounds as much as it was for the fans to celebrate, sometimes a moment of relief after a tough game. "Hey hey goodbye" doesn't sound too disrespectful to me, especially these days.

This is almost certainly what OP was looking for. It matches the description given perfectly, and I remember us playing it as long as I've been attending games.

Just listened to Herbie's Chameleon. The Dukes do the base line a little different, but you can definitely tell when the horns kick in.
This is what i was referencing in my comment above. HT's have played this back into the early 2000s, not sure if the MVs did/do too, but boy did that clip bring back some sweet memories. Thanks man.
Yeah, that was Dukes version from 1998, so I don't know who did it first or whether it was a coincidence. I was an MRD in 1998 and I remember making the CD, so I knew right where to look. I miss those days. <<UncleRico.gif>>
Feels like a simple answer but is it Radar Love? I feel like it matches your description well and the MV play it frequently (both at football and basketball games).
