Does video of this game exist? Hokietapes doesn't have it, YouTube has the year after (Miracle in Morgantown) and the year before, but I can't find this one.
This game was my freshman year and it's the first time I *got* Hokie football. 3rd quarter, WVU had 1st and goal at the 4, down 17-13 looking to take the lead. Pass interference on 1st down moves then to the 2,then 4 downs of failure culminating in Amos Zereoue getting stuffed twice. Hokies take over on the 1, Al Clark immediately throws a pick, 1st and goal from the 7 for WVU. After an incomplete pass, Ike Charlton got tired of fucking around and picked it off in the end zone. Hokies march down and score a touchdown, Eers didn't threaten again. That was when I learned you don't fuck with Bud Foster.
I was at the game, but I'm not even sure it was on TV. Any help on being able to see this footage would be a welcome Christmas present!

Wikipedia says the game was broadcast by the 1990s version of ESPN+, which was a syndicated broadcast. (I remember seeing some games circa 2003 with that branding on Fox 21/27.)
Bud was always deadly with his back to the end zone, it cuts down on what the offense can do, and he was great at bringing the heat.
I too am interested in this game. I was in the first row behind the WVU bench and remember heckling their bench during the game...
Now that's an old school paper airplane.
Wow Halloween night too!?! I hope we find this footage. I attended the tragedy that was the 1998 loss to UVA at Lane after the big halftime lead but didn't start watching religiously until '99, I was 13.
Phreak has a highlight film of the game. I'm not sure if the complete game is up anywhere.
This is amazing! Great watch the wvu game! Multiple blocks, 3 picks for Charlton, Ricky Hall everywhere! Got your goal line stop in there too, just as advertised!
We really missed Ricky in the NCG the next year
THANK YOU! That was beautiful. And it was an All Maroon Everything game! How could I forget.
I DO remember I was going to meet my sister's boyfriend's parents at a tailgate that day, but my sister uninvited me because I was wearing a t-shirt that said "What Do West Virginians Do On Halloween?" on the front and "PUMP-KIN" on the back. Apparently that wasn't respectable?
That remains one of the top 5 VT dad jokes of all time. And is just as true today as ever. #sauces
One of my favorites.
But my favorite is "Why do they call West Virginia 'Almost Heaven'? Because it's right next to Virginia.
A lot of the song is about VA anyway. That fanbase gets so triggered when anyone says anything about that song. It's hilarious.
Thank you! I miss those days. Beamer ball at its best.
Looking at some Big East defensive stats that were posted during that game:
Rushing Defense (90.3) 1st
Passing Defense (139.7) 1st
Pass eff. Defense (93.3) 1st
Total Defense (230) 1st
Scoring Defense (8.3) 1st
Sacks (28) 1st
I would love to see us get back to this kind of level defensively. I think those old Big East Conference teams were ahead of the current Coastal Division teams. I know we are in a different era of football, and I know recruiting is way different these days, but I'd love for us to be on top of the Coastal in every category in the next couple of years.
Hmmmm who knew converting QBs to FBs was a thing at VT in the 50s?! 🤷🏻♂️🤣
