Anyone else watching this? I caught the first episode this evening at work. I was please, kept me interested and the episode flew by.
TNG is pretty much my favorite show of all time, so it will be interesting to see how it measures up.

Watched it. Loved it. This and the other new Star Trek show are excellent.
I also saw a video of Patrick Stewart inviting Whoopie Goldberg to reprise her role in Season 2 which she accepted.
Looking forward to rest of the season, only wish it was released all at once.
Nah, this format is better - we can discuss the series as it goes on and don't have to worry about spoilers all the time. The instant gratification is nice, but it's like drinking a single shooter - buzz is over quick and you didn't really get to taste much.
It's also a plus for CBS, as the fans talk about and discuss it over a longer period of time, allowing more people to get hooked as their friends are talking about it. If we want a show that's only on a single (not so great otherwise) pay platform to be successful, we want people talking about it.
Interested but not interested enough to pick up yet another streaming service. Hopefully this and discovery eventually drop on netflix or prime or the mouse gobbles up CBS as well...
I like all my entertainment to adhere to the standards set here at TKP.
Given Stewart's overt assertions on what this series would be about, I'll be avoiding it. Hope everyone else enjoys it though.
I just want escapism in my entertainment. I'm stuck with cartoons I guess.
Good episode
I did notice the series began with a song that was a mix of Blue Skies, which Data sang in Nemesis at the wedding (and B4 sang at the end) and the V'ger Flyover from The Motion Picture. (The specific part starts up around 2:20 here)
This can't be a coincidence, given the direction set by the first episode.
I saw it as a nod to the "creator" given what the episode ended up being about. But unofficially, V'Ger was supposed to have been intercepted by the Borg so maybe they are going to actually play up that angle in this a bit.
I've always been intrigued by the theory that V'ger and the Borg are linked, in that the machine planet that V'ger has cataloged is their homeworld and that the merging of the Ilia probe and Dekker is what gave them the technical know how to create the Borg as we know it.
It would be interesting if they played this up in this series.

Caught the first episode on a whim and I really enjoyed it. The interview scene was tense AF. Full disclaimer: I know very little about TNG, and with that being said I dug ep 1.

This show is intense and way darker vibe with all the MA ratings. Makes me wonder what DS9 would have been like if it came out today.
If you know nothing about Voyager, it's gonna get a little confusing I think.
I think they're doing a good job with flashbacks and exposition during conversations, as someone who knows nothing about Voyager.
Agreed, just finished episode 5 and thus far the only thing I've really had to explain to my fiancée (who knows very little about Trek) was about the Borg themselves. Very pleased with the series so far.
Biggest flaw with Voyager was how the ship was always in pristine condition in spite of being in an unexplored area of the galaxy, getting beating all the time.
The final season was horrible as it milked the conflict with the Borg too much and the final episode was rather meh.
Voyager ruined the Borg
Sure with Janeway deciding to cheat and break every paradox associated with time travel.
Janeway could be twice the captain she was and she'd still be the worst Star Trek captain.
So I was not speaking to the quality of the show Voyager but more saying if you were just a casual follower of Voyager you may not know who Icheb is, because he is a pretty forgettable character from late in the show.
Did anyone finish? This show didn't really have a ton of talking points if I am being honest, but it wasn't bad. I thoroughly enjoyed the Data re write goodbye, but it seems to have built up the whole season just for that. Riker showing up was awesome, but I was disappointed in the Federation Fleet and the laziness of the variety of ships. Also they couldn't have just shown the Enterprise, either E or F? Anyway. I enjoyed it but would have had it okay out differently myself. I also feel that cursing has its place, even in Star Trek, but I thought they got w little too crazy with "FUCK". It was as if they were having everyone say it for the sake of saying it.
There aren't many shows that I look forward to week-to-week, but this was one of them. It wasn't the best show I've ever seen, but I am glad that I watched. I'm looking forward to season 2.
Not really sure where else to put this, but CBS has announced they are bringing Star Trek: Discovery to network television with Season 1 debuting its broadcast on the channel on September 24th at 10pm.
They are doing this as a special event to essentially advertise Season 3, that will go live on All Access on Thursday, October 15th
