OT: Star Wars: The Clone Wars Discussion Thread (feat. spoilers)

IT'S FINALLY BACK!

Strap in for the final season of Clone Wars on Disney +. The first episode dropped today.

Thoughts?

I dug it. Surprised that Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Jedi Samuel L. Jackson were not the focus at all. I really enjoyed Clone Force 99. I do wish the episode was longer that the standard length of 24 minutes, though.

Also, if you've never watched the series all of it is on Disney + and it's best to do it in chronological order (link). The episodes are short (less than 30 minutes).

IMO it takes about half of a season before the show really finds its footing. You can completely skip the movie and probably be better for it. The later seasons are some of the best SW storytelling I've ever seen and it validates why we have the prequels anyway.

Just started the series the other day with my girls (7 and 10). Looking forward to seeing how it all plays out.

This initial arc was on youtube as part of the unfinished stories. Glad it's getting its due, but wish it was a "new" story. I love clone wars though and super excited to see the rest

I like it, kind of like the nulls from the novels but for kids

for someone who grew up well after the ESB twist entered the pop culture lexicon, the last four episodes of this season are the best star wars content ever produced

i said it

they're that good

it solidifies it for me that the most compelling characters in the star wars universe aren't the "good guys" like luke and obi wan (although obi wan is up there). Anakin, Ahsoka, Maul, in that order for me. There's just so much development.

Agreed, it also adds so much depth to Revenge of the Sith in my opinion.

The Clone Wars series as a whole made me appreciate the prequel movies a hell of a lot more. Now if only we could get a series to that for the sequel movies.

The best thing to happen to Darth Maul is both of the animated series. He went from "cool looking bad guy that the good guys fought" to a fully formed character. TCW and Rebels both have given these characters a lot of growth.

But yeah, these last few episodes have been phenomenal. It was really cool to watch these play out side by side with Episode III. Hell, last Friday's episode compelled me to watch Ep III again for the first time since it was released in theaters.

I could have done without that sisters arc but the bad bunch arc and the final four episodes were pretty good (the final four were excellent). I also came away being impressed just how fantastic everything looked. The animation, the lightsaber fights with Ahsoka and Maul (they used real motion-cap), everything was top quality.

Agreed. Unbelievably well produced. Especially the last two episodes. The tension was incredible.

Top for me runs: Ahsoka, Maul and then Anakin. But that is Ahsoka by miles. Just an amazing character. Really hope the pull her off well in the Mandalorian.

based on the entirety of what we have (not just clone wars), I have to put Anakin's entire story first.I don't think there's really a wrong answer. Ahsoka is just tremendously written. I hope Mando S2 does her justice, and I hope there's a Rebels follow-up series as well.

yeah I understand why you have anakin first but I probably will never be able to get over the prequel movies no matter how many light years better he was in Clone Wars. But as overall character arc Anakin - Vadar - Anakin is so damn good.

Show has been great thus far this season, very sad there is only one episode left in the series

it came out yesterday my guy

He's not alone. I just found that out late last night too. I'm still in shock. That last scene made my jaw drop it was so good.

Well shit, time to switch off Narcos Mexico

Great finish to the Clone Wars series. I think I need to watch Revenge of the Sith again, and then watch the Ahsoka Rebels episodes again to pick up on all the little easter eggs.

I think Maul in the last arc might be more BA than Darth Vader, but I'm not much of a comic book fan, so I can't say the new comics wouldn't change Vader.

my absolute favorite easter egg was the lil Morai bird at the end of the episode that ties the earlier Clone Wars episodes (Mortis arc, Father/Daughter/Son) with imagery established in Rebels to signify Ahsoka

I'm about to dive into a re-watch (and 1st watch of some things) of the Star Wars universe, weaving in the shows in between the movies. I'm torn between the 'Machete/Rinster' order that starts with ANH or a modified 'Disney Fist' order I've seen moving Solo and Rogue one before ANH.

Anyone have a favorite viewing order? Anyone have good sites to pull correct chronological orders from?

I personally think watching it in Chronological Order is best, but there are some things going on concurrently with movies so you will have to be careful if you want to keep the story continuity. There are a bunch of great easter eggs along the way.

I found this which can definitely help you out here:

https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Timeline_of_canon_media

Just hide which media you dont want to include (video games, books, etc.) at the top and it automatically gives you the chronological order of what you do want.

Just wanna thank DCIMSA again for encouraging me to watch The Clone Wars and Rebels in whatever movie discussion thread it was -- both are excellent and were good uses of my time

You are welcome my dude. Truth be told it was Magic Rat (who I don't think posts very often) that turned me onto those series first. As a kid, I never thought that much later in life one of my favorite SW characters would be a clone, but here I am.

I can only hope that The Mouse backs the money truck up to Dave Filoni's house and tells him to create a new series (animated or no, at this point it doesn't matter) that weaves in and out of the sequel trilogy with as much deft as he pulled off with TCW.

I have started. Watching in chronological order. All of them. I can't handle the idea of not seeing them all.

So far the only really annoying part is Jar Jar. Who could have guessed.

I love a good nap. Sometimes that's all that's getting me out of bed in the morning.

I just finished CW series with my boys (8,11) a short time ago, we watched all the movies first, then CW, then watched the Yoda Chronicles on youtube, which are really more of just a humorous spin on things than actual story (like most Lego stuff), and now we are into season 2 of Rebels. Looking forward to whatever else Disney decides to put out for the franchise.

Busy morning! 8-)

Interesting that this thread got resurrected because Ashley Eckstein (the voice of Ahsoka Tano) posted this on her Instagram

I was going through old boxes and I found my original offer letter for the new role of Ahsoka Tano. This was back in 2006 when letters were still sent instead of emails 😜

The second slide is the original character description I was given for the first episode. We worked very hard to find Ahsoka's voice, her spirit, her personality and spunk. It's one of the greatest honors of my entire life to help originate the role of Ahsoka Tano.
