Jack Hollifield Commits to Hokies

The 6-foot 3-inch, 225-pounder out of North Carolina chose the Hokies over offers from Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, NC State, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, and others.

Listed as the No. 24 inside linebacker prospect nationally, Hollifield has potential on the other side of the ball.

"Shibest really thinks I am a tight end, as of right now," he said over the summer.

"Whatever is going to get me on the field the quickest is what I'm cool with."

Good athlete. Has played all over the field for his HS (DE, LB, TE, etc.) I think he's less of a sure thing at TE/H-Back than Ouzts or Dingle, but definitely has a lot of potential.

I think he's going to be an excellent addition in that blocking TE role. I really like his potential there more so that on the defensive side of the ball. I really liked his motor watching him live in the HS championship game last year

Not a film expert but not sure how well he moves in space. I sort of like him as a strong side end. Regardless, he's a good person for the coaches to figure out in terms of a combo of athletic ability and body type that lends itself to a few different roles.

Edit: wonder if he gets re-rated at TE. I recall 247 dinged his rating like 4 or 5 points when they changed his eval from ATH to ILB

Bit of interesting news...sounds like Hollifield is moving to OL.

Given this is a legacy recruit that the staff has been recruiting for several years and he's been on campus for less than a semester, this is a little odd but I trust Vice and Shibest to make the best decision for him.

@French, what are you thinking here based on his HS film? 6-3 225lbs doesn't seem like the starting point for future OT but what do I know. If he's anything like his brother, I know he won't have trouble putting on 80 lbs over the next couple of years.

FWIW, hokiesports has him listed at 243 lb, still doesnt seem like a great starting point for a college OL
