We thought we had it bad with 23 players being out, looks like the Golden Domers are struggling as their cases continue to rise. I can't imagine they will be playing anytime soon at this rate and will shake up schedules even further. Also, long time lurker but first time posting a topic so be gentle.

eh, my first time posting and I wasn't 100 hundred percent sure if it was or not. I guess it probably is on topic being ACC related but VT wasn't the focus so I wasn't sure.
Not surprising. You have to imagine that every week this season is going to have 5-10 games postponed. I also doubt you'll see teams missing a single week at a time; given that it typically takes the body about 2 weeks to defeat the virus, I think it's fair to assume that if a team has to cancel one week, they'll probably cancel the following weekend as well.
Some cancellations may be due to too many players succumbing to contact tracing, as opposed to actually testing positive. But I'm not sure how you know, or how long the various test regimes take to clear someone.
The assessment may be tricky, and players are prevented from practice as well.
Not to mention any symptomatic cases likely will take over 2 weeks to resolve/recover. This is not a gentle disease on the body.
ND was scheduled to have a bye this coming weekend anyway, as was WF. But it was telling that they didn't just push last week's game a week out.
Between this and the Tennessee Titans having 8 cases after a game (3 players, 5 personnel members), my outlook on finishing a season is starting to decrease. Even though every school that is going to attempt in person this year has already started their semesters - it seems like football as a whole hasn't moved past the mass influx infection stage yet. And as long as teams keep traveling to other schools, there are just going to be some mobile clusters that we're going to have to deal with.
Nearly 0% chance the NFL doesn't finish the season. Pretty small chance for college football as well, but I could imagine a high profile death or multiple deaths causing the NCAA to step in.
I think I misphrased that, or just forgot to fully write out my entire thought. I meant a complete season, i.e. the remaining 10 games. I'm just not sure I trust all the other teams to finish out on time, not postpone games, etc.
Especially if the Brian Kelly's of the world decide to have full team meals before games. That is the danger testing every two days versus testing every day.
Ah well I completely agree with you that many college football teams will not play their full season even under the modified schedules.

I have been pessimistic from the start, but between the NHL and NBA getting it right, MLB finding a way, and everything we've seen out of soccer internationally, there's enough proof that it can work that I think we'll be fine. That being said, any major outbreaks where it runs out of control in a region again would change things. And any deaths directly related to COVID would completely change things.
Unfortunately I think its just a matter of time, and because of the sheer size of the teams and the amount of contact required in game it is significantly harder to prevent the spread relative to what MLB, NHL, and the NBA had to deal with.
I disagree tbh. I was pretty pescimistic about a season happening before, but now I'm pretty confident every team in the ACC, SEC, and B12 will play at least 7-8 games. Every team will probably have 2 week period where they can't field a team, but once we get passed that, I think most games will be played.
It's going to be an unconventional year for sure, but as long as teams can adapt and pivot quickly, I think 75%+ of scheduled games will happen at some point.
