OT: Six Pick Week 5, 2020 Edition

No perfect weeks last week either. Congrats to 2Hokiesin1 (second time) and brnse for leading the charge at 5-1 last week. 2Hokiesin1 leads the season with 17.

Getting into the meat of the season. Every week matters this year. And this week, all home teams are favorites. 6 Road Dogs! And we've got 4 ACC matchups this week.
Time to get into the Fif week!

NCState @ Virginia (-9.5)
The wolfpack squeaked out a close one last week in Pitt. Virginia left death valley with an L. Virginia being favored by nearly double digits? Strange times. NC State is averaging 33 points a game. Can the Cavaliers put up 43??? I don't see it happening. Wolfpack

Texas @ Oklahoma (-1.5)
Ah, the good ol Red River Shootout. When was the last time a ticket for this game went for under $100? Strange times. Texas coming off a loss, and Oklahoma coming off two; both named State. If it were Texas STATE, I'd go Longhorns. But think the Sooners find a way to get to 2-2 on the year and cover the 1.5.

Virginia Tech @ North Carolina (-5.5)
Basketball line? Football line? Strange times. I know it's Mack Brown. The Mack Brown. THAT Mack Brown. But I also know the maroon and orange. And we do not go down to no stinkin Tobacco Road Triangle and lose. We pull this bad boy out, and cover it on our side, winning by a TD or more. Let's Go!

Tennessee @ Georgia (-12.5)
What do we have here? Tennessee in the top 15?? Strange times. Does old Rocky Top have anything, on the road, for the team that picked apart the supposed #7 team in the country and held them to 2 field goals? I know 12.5 is a lot, and they may be peeking ahead to Bammer next weekend a tad bit, but feel like the Dawgs get it done this weekend.

Florida State @ Notre Dame (-20.5)
Free Shoes University goes 0-2, and starts the game against Jacksonville State down 21-7 before waking up. Notre Dame is coming off a postponed week do to Covid issues. Strange times. Are they a top 5 team? Only beat Duke by 14...but throttles USF 52-0. FSU outscored JVSU 34-3 in 2.5 quarters last Saturday. I think Notre Dame wins, but doesn't cover. Somewhere in that 18-20 range.

Miami (FL) @ Clemson (14.5)
Gameday. For a Miami game. Strange times indeed. NO. Miami is NOT bak. Clemson will take out something on them. All their pent up everything. All of it. Covering, embarrassing, hanging 50. And that 14.5 is way in the rear view mirror.

Beer of the weekend.
Since we have a nooner. And there's solid football on after our game. Going to go a little lighter on the ABV, and something I can drink throughout the day on Saturday. I'm thinking this;
or this

I PICK EDDIE VAN HALEN

Samuel Adams Oktoberfest is terrific; can't go wrong with either, really

Hate to say it, but I'd take Tennessee (and I'm going to Vegas this weekend and putting my money where my mouth is). Huge trap game for UGa coming off a huge game against Auburn and then traveling to Tuscaloosa the week after...12.5 points is too much in my opinion.

The Sam Adams Sweater Weather 12 pack is pretty good too. Three each of Oktoberfest, Pumpkin Ale, Sam '76, and Boston Lager.

I hear ya. And if it was closer to Halloween and a lot cooler, I'd say I'd agree 100%. I think Bammer kicks them in the teeth next week, but they find a way to get thru the early part of the schedule fairly well most years. Then implode. With Alabama and Florida 2 of the next 3, they'll have plenty of time to go south. But I just have an odd feeling about this weekend. I just don't trust UT to do anything with what's in front of them. i basically had to flip a coin on this one and can see it going either way. I'd pull for a UGA win, UT cover, then the SEC madness starts. As long as UT isn't in the race near the end...

Tennessee fans are already hyping themselves up over the season ("feels like '98"). Every time they do that, it's the kiss of death.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

NCState
Texas
Virginia Tech
Tennessee
Notre Dame
Clemson

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

NCState @ Virginia (-9.5) - this doesn't even warrant an explanation

Texas @ Oklahoma (-1.5) - this is a tough one but I think Texas has played better teams in Texas Tech and TCU and will win a close one to keep Oklahoma on a losing streak

Virginia Tech @ North Carolina (-5.5) - This game is supposed to be a barn-burner. I think our defense is better than UNC's. Their offense might be better than ours but with our commitment to the running game and the likely wet weather I think VT comes away with another win in Chapel Hill

Tennessee @ Georgia (-12.5) - I'm convinced Georgia is actually good. I'm not convinced Tennessee is but they might be. This is also the SEC, though, and I wouldn't be shocked to see a close one. Georgia wins a close game.

Florida State @ Notre Dame (-20.5) - LOL@FSU

Miami (FL) @ Clemson (-14.5) - I think Clemson will really show up and Miami will collapse in the 3rd quarter. It'll be close at half time but Clemson will run away with it in the 2nd half

Onward and upward

I improved this week. 3-3 (11-30, I think)!!

However, I thought that VT would keep it closer. I probably would be right if they stuck to the running game early instead of asking Burmeister to pick up first downs with his arm. 1 carry for KH in the first Q is inexcusable. But I digress. When I pick against the Hokies they win, when I pick them they lose. So for the rest of the season I'll be picking against them. Sorry for the UNC loss

Onward and upward

NCState covers
Oklahoma
Virginia Tech
Tennessee
Notre Dame
Miami (FL)

Five star get after it 100 percent Juice Key-Playing. MAN

NC State to cover... if they hadn't changed QBs, I'd pick the other way

Oklahoma... no idea which team is better or worse since they both came out the gate falling on their faces, so I take the home team winning by a FG

HOKIES because HOKIES

Go Dawgs... I'm pleasantly surprised by the team after how they shut down Auburn, and the game is in Sanford again too? Sic 'em.

Notre Dame... because Florida State is hot trash on a platter

Clemson... Dabo has had Miami's number for a few years now

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

To be fair, Dabo has had everyone's number for the past few years

Onward and upward

True, although most teams have been able to keep closer than others at least once.

Not Miami though. 96-3 over their past two games.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

I would not be upset if that extended to 99-3 this weekend

Onward and upward

more likely, though, is that it gets extended to 131-17 or something

Onward and upward

NCState @ Virginia (-9.5)...would be great if NCSU wins this but I think Bronco pulls the hoos u and they get the points and the win but not by much more.
Texas @ Oklahoma (-1.5)
Virginia Tech @ North Carolina (-5.5)
Tennessee @ Georgia (-12.5)
Florida State @ Notre Dame (-20.5)
Miami (FL) @ Clemson (14.5).....I hope I get this one wrong and clemson crushes them but I think Miami hangs around all game. Never threatening to win but I think the do just enough to cover late.

I, for one, am glad that the only people who picked UNC got nailed on other picks. Mostly because I'm a petty little bitch, but still
