He's done more than hint at it...he's flat out said it:
"The thing I let him know though, I'm not a status quo guy. I'm not going to be Frank Beamer. I'm going to carry on the foundation that Frank Beamer started and build on it. Just like Tom Osborne did for Bob Devaney, or Jimbo Fisher after Bobby Bowden. We built something here and I'm a big part of that."

Also read on here in some thread that he would prefer a more high-octane offense if he were HC

Wolfolk said Babcock promised the Hokies would have a new coach in place before Wolfolk enrolls early in January, and that the plan was for this new coach to visit him and Virginia Tech's other 2016 prospects some time in December.

caught a radio interview by Rhule one day last week, was really impressed with him. He seems to have the same kind of work ethic, and family value type characteristics that Beamer has instilled in VT for nearly 3 decades.

Giant holographic Beamer dancing on midfield before every game

I sent an email to Whit today mentioning this very point...Frank said himself he is retiring, in part to keep Hokie Nation united as there was a growing split between those of us who wanted him to stay, and the folk who wanted him to get the boot.

I think hiring RichRod would create a bigger divide among fans than Frank staying another year or two. I'd like to have a head coach that I, and the rest of the fans can respect. When I look at RR, i just see a sleazeball.

Sources tell FOX Sports that Babcock will likely hire Beamer's successor from out of house.

#SAUCES

This guy's top 8 in line for the job are:
1. Fuente
2. RichRod (boo hiss boo)
3. Larry Fedora (first I've heard his name mentioned)
4. Herman
5. Rhule
6. Chad Morris
7. Butch Jones (huh?)
8. Bud Foster

My one and only encounter with Coach Beamer was at the south main street ABC store, he was buying a bunch of airplane bottles of Wild Turkey we talked for a minute, dont remember about what...first time I ever really felt star struck talking to someone but I do remember he was very down to earth, easy to chat with, and didn't mind getting held up for an extra minute to talk with a fan.

Sparked my curiousity, so i decided to look it up

Jeff King - 58 Rec for 724 yds
Browning Wynn - 24 Rec 478 yds
Bob Slowikowski - 12 Rec 286 yds
Sam Wheeler - 30 Rec 440 yds
Andre Smith- 39 Rec 438 yds

for a grand total of 163 receptions and 2366 yds

Through 1.5 seasons of play Hodges now has 66 Rec for 875 yds
Malleck through 3.5 seasons has 56 rec for 567 yards
Cline has (1.5 years) 30 for 362
152 Rec for 1804 yds on the roster today with 5.5 years of eligibility left between the three

He has said in the past he would prefer a high-octane offense

I bet he does, after all those years of the defense carrying the the team to 10 wins

I'm not going to get into the should or shouldn't he go side of the argument. I'm torn on that one. BUT if this is Beamer's last year, I do hope that they announce it sooner than later in order to get a jump on some of the hot names out there, rather than being stuck with the leftovers after everyone else makes their hires.

but mainly that they would run their house blitz in critical situations (3rd and longs, 4th down plays)

sounds like we're going to be seeing a lot of blitzing

He's Duke's leading rusher with 53.5 yards per game and he's scored twice on the ground.

Crrraaaaaappppp

this team is going to wallop somebody they shouldn't (Duke, probably)

who would have ever thought those words would be said.
