Even if Bud is gone after this year, a lot of the coverage principles that would be covered in those extra practices would benefit young guys like Mook and Alexander. I could see defense benefiting from extra practices regardless of who the DC is in 2016.
Offense? Forget about it. I have a suspicion we will not be running a pro-style multiple offense next season. And even if we are, it'll be way different from Lefty's. I don't see the offense gaining much from the extra practice time, with the only possible exception being the offensive line.
Was just coming here to say he reminds of of Branden Ore with a good work ethic.
Which is why I'm dying to see an I. Ford go route out of Motley's wildcat package. Motley's little trademarked shoulder juke would freeze the shit out of everyone, then just launch the shit out of the ball. If it's overthrown, NBD. But I'm betting it would be there.
then he can ride off into
the Texas sunset.his coaching career

LET'S TALK BOWL GAMES
How bout we talk UNC first?
Basically, he's good when he's got a good QB surrounded by seniors. He's basically gonna get first pick of option QBs as the only P5 program running that offense, and he's gonna have mostly upperclassmen every 3-4 years. Notice he has made the ACCCG every three years, the only exception being last year he made it a year early.
It's really hard for him to put together back to back good seasons, but it's also hard for him to suck two years in a row.
At some point, they have to bite the bullet, but only if the fans donors get upset enough.
There's the rub. I'm sure the fanbase is disgruntled right now, but in general, CPJ has brought a lot of success to GT. It's just up and down based on the players he has on offense. If they were consistently terrible, they'd bite the bullet and start the rebuild, but CPJ has taken the Bees to more ACCCGs than every other Coastal team without the word "Tech" in their name. GT fans aren't delusional about their place in the landscape of college football. They are perennial contenders in the Coastal. Firing CPJ would mean giving that up for a LOOOOOONG period of irrelevancy in the hopes of taking the next step of actually winning when they make the ACCCG. That means elevating GT to the position of Clemson and FSU.
Do you see the GT president and AD making the kind of investment that would require? That's more than just a coaching change; that's a massive investment in facilities and recruiting, at a school that is unquestionably second fiddle in their own state.
IMO, it will take multiple years at this level of failure before they consider pulling the trigger on a coaching change.
Well crap. I didn't even know Tyrod was back from his injury.
If they hire literally any other coach in the nation except Ken Niumatalolo, the rebuild they would be embarking on would be gargantuan. They would be terrible for years of offense regardless of who they hired, because A) Every single player on offense, from the "lie down aggressively at the snap" offensive line to every skill position player, has been recruited to run the flexbone, and B) Georgia Tech isn't enough of a recruiting draw to be able to bring in a class or two and restock with talented underclassmen who could be good in three years.
They're in with CPJ for the long haul. Better to wait out this disaster of a season and rely on the fact that they are guaranteed to be in contention for the Coastal crown within two seasons, just because that's the way GT has been since they hired him. This down year is just worse than most, but they'll be decent again soon enough.
"Holly Rowe"
...I'll see myself out.
Let's just hope that's pronounced "Dwayne Lawson"
There's no protection that a 7-win team can't be passed over for a 6-win team, at least on the NCAA level. Individual conferences might have such protections, but aren't required to.
The NCAA does, however, have protections against a 6-win team being passed over by a 5-win team in the event they grant waivers to allow 5-7 teams to fill unfilled bowl slots. Also, bowl eligibility isn't predicated on being 6-6. The requirement is 6 wins. Most 6-6 teams will not be making conference championship games, so UCLA's example is a wonky one, but by the book, UCLA was still bowl eligible at 6 wins. So the UCLA example is apple and oranges compared to the conversation about what our bowl prospects would be at 5-7. Literally EVERY 6 win team would have to be selected before we could get a waiver to fill a bowl spot.
I am embarrassed by the number of times I clicked that arrow.
Good lord. I don't know if I can handle three more of these.
Go Hokies.
IIRC, the NCAA stipulates that ALL 6-6 teams must be selected for bowls before ANY 5-7 teams can be selected. That would mean our only competition would be other 5-7 teams. There isn't really a "better bowl" in that scenario. Basically all the upside you site would be the reason we get selected over other 5-7 teams, but at that point it's going to be slim pickings on what bowls are actually open.
I've actually given that some thought. I know I'm probably in the minority, and possibly alone, but to me, the bowl streak means more. Going out with 23 consecutive regular seasons without a losing record is huge. I'd rather that continue that the UVA streak.
But it's really close.
In the end, if we make a bowl but lose to LOLUVA, we could still send them a postcard from our bowl destination, while they're home for the holidays.

Ranked in personal order of priority, not chronologically.

I think we live and die by the offense tonight. My hope on defense is to get maybe one or two key stops. Other than that, I think it's a shootout.
So far I love Windows 10. I have an Asus Transformer, and Windows 10 is an amazing OS for hybrid devices like that. My old HP laptop is a little buggy running 10, but it was also a little buggy running Windows 8, and is actually less buggy since the update to 10. I have the same unresponsive Start button/Cortana issue, but only when it's been running for a while (days), and then a reboot always fixes the issue.
I think like most OSes, Windows 10 works best on devices on which it was the first install. I'm convinced upgrading always brings bugs along with it. (Still, my Transformer was updated from 8, and I've had basically no issues at all on that device.)
I'm done paying one lick of attention to recruiting until after the new HC and staff are announced. There will be way too much volatility between now and signing day to have any emotional investment in recruiting. Right now my focus is
- Get bowl eligible
- Beat LOLUVA
- Win bowl
- See who new HC is
This recruiting class might be awful, or we might surge after the new coach is announced. I'll worry about that in February.
Drunk.
And for the record, I hope I'm wrong.

Ummm...no. I mean, Ford filled up the stat sheet while Motley was the starter, but Mot was running the whole offense. His wildcat package is 100% run based, so the chance to catch a defense flatfooted is way higher now that Motley is back to his situational role.
