I may be in the minority but I would not like a Franklin hire (perhaps not for the same reasons as others, tho, those reasons are valid for me too). Mostly because I don't think he necessarily qualifies as a re-tread, thus putting him in the category of a "sitting" P4 coach. From Shelton Moss:

Success rate for retread P4 coaches: 46%
Success rate for sitting P4 coaches: 15% (!!)

In the wake of the projected increases to Virginia Tech's budget, many Hokie fans have suggested the school play hard-ball and poach a Power Four head coach. But that strategy entails plenty of risk, too.

There are two subgroups here: sitting Power Four head coaches, and retread coaches (those who took a gap in between their tenures after being let go). The hit rate for sitting coaches is abysmally low โ€” and I'd like to discuss it, since it shows where a lot of AD's go wrong.

This new revenue system sucks. We played a Top 15 team in GT on ACCN and FSU loses to Pitt on ESPN. I wonder which game drew the most viewers?

One interesting aspect: if he can get started sooner, then he gets a huge jump on recruiting classes. He can start talking to kids in the portal, and he can start working the high school kids to try to get them to come to Tech. The extra month and a half could be crucial in building his first class.

I really wonder what the line movement is based on. If all the real players have NDIs, then it's not information from Tech that's causing the movement. But if the oddsmaker is talking to people in Franklin's (or other coaches') circle, they should already know that there's a lot of talking with ulterior motives.

So what's causing the movement? Inquiring minds want to know!

I read a while ago that Kirby told UGA that Glenn was coming with him i the interview. He is more than the DC because he has been the right hand man of Kirby. He was also assisting Saban with odds and ends of being a head coach at Bama so he might have a unique outlook on being a HC that other coordinators don't have.

oof. great write-up, Bar. Thanks again for doing these

I don't think I'd hate the Glenn hire. I wouldn't love it. But given who we will probably end up with, I'd probably prefer the Glenn hire. I'm losing faith pretty quickly that VT is going to hire a legit football coach.

anyway, I thought this was funny

he showed up at Alabama as a student in 2008

Industry analysts predict he'll leave after the 2025 season, with potential destinations including Florida State, USC, and Auburn

If he started as a student at Bama, I think it's extremely unlikely he'll ever end up at Auburn in any capacity. Either that, or everything I've heard about how much Bama and Auburn fans hate each other is completely false. (My reference point: no amount of money would ever be enough for me to work for UVA in any capacity. NONE. - and I love money)

I wonder about a Franklin hiring. He would not have the backing at Tech that he had at Penn State. Yes, he did succeed at Vandy as well, but that was over a decade ago.

We hired Pry thinking of the recruiting bump and Penn State transfers we were going to get. None of which ever manifested. Could Franklin really boost our talent level? Possibly, but I think it is far from a guarantee.

For those keeping track, the lines have moved

...and I saw somewhere that the UNC GM is exploring funding options with the saudis. Apparently doing an exploratory trip over there, paid for by the hosts.

As bad as you think the situation is, its actually worse

Geez, Bill and Jordon are straight up toxic individuals. UNC really shit all over themselves with this hire.

Had Dr. (Lay Nam) Chang for Quantum Mechanics. Can't remember if it was undergrad or graduate level, I think the latter. And I think he was the dept head at the time. Heck of a teacher, though. Really could explain a concept well.

Looking through the current faculty (https://www.phys.vt.edu/About/people/Faculty.html), there are only two names left that I recognize, both of which I had as a professor. I had Dr. Piilonen for a modern/particle physics class early on, and I took multiple classes from Dr. Simonetti, who taught (along with Einstein clone Dr. IForgetHisNameRightNow) most of the astronomy/astrophysics classes, along with an independent study I had with him about programming orbital mechanics.

To be fair, this was 30 years ago, plus or minus, so I'm not surprised there are only two left.

Whoever it was who originally told that story years ago on the TSL boards had me literally ROTFL. JoePoo is just too good.
