Interesting article.
I like the part where Congress considers yanking their tax exempt status if they do this. So I suppose they'll have to set aside some bribe money.
If it's like most weeks, Bye Week is playing us.
Well said.
Agreed. I actually would enjoy seeing us become a revived upstart villain ready to fuck some shit up and make some noise. It would mean we're finally winning games
When I was training for a half marathon (before my feet betrayed me), it was an evolving strategy. After the first time I had to run into the woods to shit behind a tree to save my underwear, I packed toilet paper the next time. Then I timed it so I ran by the rec center at about the right time. Then I figured out what sounds like your trick; wake up 30 min earlier and pound coffee until you get it out of your system before you run.
Also, I cordially invite anyone into the headspace of someone simultaneously clenching their ass to avoid disaster, scouting potential places they can duck off a trail to drop trou, watching if anyone is close enough to notice you run off the trail, and worried about how much this unplanned bathroom stop is going to impact your pace for this run.
I'm not going to lie, good ole wholesome VT embracing the dark side and hiring its long time recruiting nemesis in Franklin would be the equivalent of this program going from Hulk Hogan say your prayers eat your vitamins, to Hollywood Hogan bad guy. The leg drop heard round the world. And I'm starting to sort of love it. Would show we want to do some crootin' and get serious.
Munich: Christmas markets are great, particularly Marienplatz, the Residenz, and to me, best food was at the medieval market. Make sure to catch the Rathaus show while in Marienplatz. BMW world is pretty cool. Bayern games are great, but you've got a larger group. Neuschwanstein was a letdown for me. WAY too crowded, and half was under construction. There's a smaller yellow castle across the road that was much more interesting.
Strasbourg: Did this last November, was not prepared for how crowded it would be. Self-appointed Capital of Christmas, and the markets were so full. The cathedral is cool, but lines get massive. Walking around the old hospital is cool. There's a wine cellar with the oldest white wine in the world. Worth a day trip to go out to Chateau Haute Konigsbourg and Colmar if you can spare it.
Sorry no specific food recs, we ate almost exclusively at the markets in those two places. Lots of good options doing that though.
quizzical dog face
Maybe he just wants to have a fun senior year? Maybe he doesn't want his last year of playing organized football to be a throwaway season where half the team has mailed it in?
Maybe he just wants to play at the highest level he can - be it VT, Clemson, SEC, etc.
Maybe he thinks he can get an extra $50k next year. That ain't chump change; that could help put a relative through school, payoff a family member's debt, sit in an investment fund, buy a car, etc
Maybe there's an uncle pulling the strings and pushing buttons. Maybe he's getting worked.
Maybe VT is behind on player payments.
I never know about any of these guys' personal/financial situations, so I try hard not to pass judgement. Thanks for your service, best of luck, next man up.
We bought the Bye Coach.
He makes his debut this Saturday.
An interesting twist (for lack of a better term) here: the Private Equity wanting a stake in the B10? It's the California pension investment fund...
Feels like they could, I dunno, hire an attorney?
I hear ya - I'm saying that it's not the same and that won't happen to PSU. PSU has an athletic dept designed to succeed in 2025+. If This hire does worse than Franklin, they just replace him.
VT did not have an athletic dept designed to succeed 2015+. The downside of multiple failed hires for us was worse than will be for PSU.
Jimmy Sexton after this years cycle.....

What I'm saying - with the benefit of hindsight, how many of us would GLADLY take back the years of 9+ win seasons in exchange for regularly falling short of a NC (now playoff appearance)? THAT is what PSU is about to find out.
I suppose, but that highlights one of my main complaints: zero transparency.
How much NIL does a player in Ellis' position command? A backup safety at a struggling P4?
I doubt its nearly enough to create long-term financial stability.
Its clearly in the NIL agents's interest to prolong "careers" as long as possible--and that's one of the core problems of unmitigated Pay for Play-- the playrrs are probably getting as much bad advice and being used by others as a means to an end as anything else.

In addition to all that, because there's only 2-3 agencies representing everyone, coaches effectively have monopoly power.
Heard Stewart Mandel on the radio explain the crazy coaching contracts like this:
ADs have a lot of duties. Negotiating contracts is only one of them and they don't really do it that often. On the other side you have agents for the coaches that do nothing but negotiate contracts and that know how to play interested parties against one another for leverage. The ADs are basically just prey to the agents.
Wrestling... multiple National Champions to pay to keep happy.
May have gotten advice that his chances are minimal at next level so getting revenue share plus NIL for one more season could be huge boost to long term financial well being. Depends on how this year's money was allocated too on if he is losing out. Been with the team for 7 of 12 games so likely got most of this year's money anyway.
there just doesn't seem to be much upside to prolonging your college career indefinitely.
There is an upside for @ APSportsAgency
I mean, I get it, but I also don't.
He's @ VT, getting his $$ and playing enough to have some film for scouts to evaluate. He's playing less than @ NM but playing vs. significantly better competition than the MWC.
I just don't understand the goal. I certainly don't think he's going to get P2 level interest.
So he's going to play at an equal or lower level for one more year and be one year older--how does that improve his chances to play at the next level?
For quarterbacks, I sort of get it because age isn't necessarily a deterrent to an NFL team at that position. But for a player with (presumptively) only one year of eligibility remaining, there just doesn't seem to be much upside to prolonging your college career indefinitely.
Russian dude? I remember going into his office for help in physics 2. He was so shocked, I was afraid I walked in on something illegal. Never got higher than a 40% on any assignment, finished with a B in that class. Pretty sure it's because I went to office hours that one time.

If he'd come to VT, we should hire him in a millisecond.
