That's the academic side. The athletic side uses a different color palate that was unveiled in the 2016 rebrand that effectively aligned athletics with the colors that we had been wearing for a couple decades at that point. To be fair, they still call it Chicago Maroon and Burnt Orange, but they switched the official colors to the more purplish maroon and blaze orange that we had been wearing athletically for a while. Academics rebranded shortly thereafter to more or less align, just lighter shades of those colors.

References to this rebrand have been scrubbed from Hokiesports, but I was able to track down the current Brand Sheet that we sent to the NCAA that is what our suppliers have been working with for years, or at least the one that was last revised in 2018 - https://brand.vt.edu/content/dam/Virginia%20Tech%20Artwork%20Sheet.pdf

There is a good article on this rebrand on TSL from that time - https://virginiatech.sportswar.com/free-content/2016/04/28/virginia-tech...

As you can see, the colors more or less match the colors that we have worn athletically for a while. Our official Chicago Maroon is that purplish shade. Our official Burnt Orange is that Blaze Orange you see in these uniforms.

In fact, if we're being technical about it all, the color scheme of TKP is actually out of date based on our current branding.

Teams don't suddenly "come to life" in the playoffs after a bye. Just ask the Braves.

So the names of the colors didn't change, but there was an effort to consolidate the branding more uniformly since there was a wide variety in the maroon that we used, the orange that we used, etc. There have been more purple maroons, more brown maroons, day-glow orange, burnt orange, unsaturated orange etc.

There were specific colors assigned (HEX, RGB, PMS, etc) that were to be enforced across all media. It helped a bit, but there are still discrepancies in how the color is used in a lot of places.

Are you sure? This website might be outdated but from a quick google I can not find reference to a change in 2016

Ai Response:
"Virginia Tech's official colors, Chicago maroon and burnt orange, have not changed since 1896. The school's brand guide requires using Chicago maroon and burnt orange, and there's no evidence of any color changes in 2016 or any time since their adoption. "

I don't think this situation is necessarily a sign of incompetence, but just saying it doesn't promote confidence

I think I agree with this. Anything going public should have been already pre approved at this time and Arians comments sound like they were definitely not pre approved. But I think this falls more on Arians than the school as it should've been very clear not to be too public with everything and Arians is not a one time guest on that show. VT was not placing him there to talk about it.

What happened to Gabe? He was playing well the last few weeks

I dont think either team looked particularly impressive this week. Its going to be interesting to watch the first couple games against the Jays to see which versions of each club show up. My gut tells me we're going to see the Jays finally come to life in the playoffs.

So our next uniform deal is with Armani?

A little unorthodox, but we will look good at least

edit:

Edit 2: just to balance things, here's the Victoria's Secret variant

Given that this contract is reportedly 6X their previous Adidas contract, I would imagine that there's a substantial amount of cash, but also that uniforms and equipment would be included in that deal. All of that money is going to go to the athletic department and they will distribute two players at their discretion (just like all rev share money)
