Yes, P4 Football programs generally generate large amounts of Revenue, but a significant portion of that revenue then goes to (1) pay their own expenses, which are considerable (2) offset losses from many other sports programs and maintain facilities.
So if you really want players to "get their due," then, by default you also are advocating to eliminate opportunities for other athletes that work just as hard, are every bit as dedicated, and have every bit as much to offer the University.
My opinion is the ultimate outcome here is an eventual challenge to Title IX, probably by an SEC School, because, you know it "just means more" there.

It's a bit over simplistic, but at the end of the day, my view basically boils down to 'don't hate the player, hate the game' while recognizing that universities (and other stakeholders who care only about profits) have controlled the game for 99% of this sport's history.
Pry got one....in thirteen tries.
It is an unfortunate truth about Philip Montgomery that he is already doing things that Brent Pry never achieved at Virginia Tech in his first games as interim head coach.
To be clear, it's unfortunate that Pry couldn't pull off a one-score win.
But it's fortunate that Montgomery isn't afraid to try for a win against the odds.

Though to be fair, some of these same debates are happening in that world as well. There has been a growing challenge to the whole GME system over the past 10 years as being exploitative and anti-competitive for housestaff. More hospital housestaff are unionizing, though not sure how much has been gained. And certain specialties are dropping out of the Match.
I had said this in another thread, but it does appear that the old adage of "you show the most improvement between week 1 and week 2" potentially applied to Monty's interim first two games ( I will let a much smarter person like French tell me if that is true).
My fear is the schedule will prove too difficult with games against ranked Georgia Tech (who looked beatable against Wake), Florida State (who lost to UVA), and Miami; plus potentially tough games against Louisville and Virginia (as much as that pains me to say).

# | Bitter: Sr DL James Djonkam and FR DL Keyshawn Burgos are no longer with the football team But this is where schools are caught in a quandary in that it doesn't matter that zero female sports are profitable. By Title IX they have to have offsetting sports to 105 football players and 15 basketball players at a minimum. Not sure it's 1:1 either, believe it's in accordance with the school population. That helps VT if that's the case as student population is 57:43 male/female. Still means Hokies must have roughly 103 roster spots for women's sports. That is minimum 4 sports that have to be maintained if you pick the ones with largest rosters. (Soccer, Softball, Lacrosse and then WBB simply because it does bring in some revenue)
After that you can begin to have conversations on shuttering other programs. You get some overlap in maintenance between the two basketball programs, you could look at overlap of facilities for Soccer/Lacrosse and then you only have the softball field to maintain separately. Also would be curious to see what the ESPN contract specifically requires and what the return is by sport.
Have not seen any specifics on if football become employees, does it count against Title IX anymore? If they are employees are they still required to fake school? If they are employees can they switch employers at any time if the antitrust exception hasn't been granted by Congress that allows collective bargaining and contracts that are similar to professional athletes?

I actually see a path to six wins for this team. That would be a remarkable accomplishment if they do.

For the future, would it be hard to do a running yearly summary? I'd be interested to see how the numbers compared vs USCe and going forward tracking our (hooeful) progress/treading.

I can already see the Facebook comments if Monty rattles off a couple of wins. I don't want to condescend, but there will be a contingent of... let's say shortsighted fans, who will be upset when we cut Monty loose, because they cannot see past the current weekend and cannot conceive of a longer, larger vision for Hokie football.
Just pure emotion, always. Hokies win = me feel good = don't touch anything! we're winning! = hire Monty full time. We can't afford that. And I suspect that this sort of mindset has plagued leadership at Tech too.

All stats and data comes from the College Football Database which webscrapes play results from ESPN. I did have to do some manual editing of play data (it had the late fumble recovered by NC State as a gain of 11, not a loss of 11), and removed the final kneel down from Drones.
I missed the ODU game as I was at a wedding, and skipped the Wofford game as FCS has limited value. I will continue with Wake Forest but it will probably be late as I have another wedding that weekend. Please let me know if there is anything else you are interested in and I will try to find a way to add it.

And if a player DOES redshirt with the team's approval, shouldn't the NIL be reduced?
I think this can negotiated, from the team standpoint to include assurances the player will return for future seasons.

If it wasnt the school affiliation I am not giving it my time, my money and then these guys would be hard pressed to find their way to Sundays.

That is definitely a part of the plan. Will probably try to do that some time this week if / when I have the time to pull it together. I wanted to wait until we had played four FBS games, so now would be the week to do it.
Unfortunately, like the last few years, it seems like the team will make a dramatic shift after September which will make for some interesting comparisons.
