I agree that Mullen likely doesn't go to Ole Miss just because they hate him after he was at Miss. St. but I don't think it's out of the question. Auburn probably goes opposite of their ex, and Mullen is not opposite of Hugh. But again, wouldn't be shocked. Especially if he wins out at UNLV which is possible.

I can see Golesh to UF because they like offense. Sumrall to Auburn just seems to fit too.

Bruce Arians was in studio for the Pat Mcafee Show today. VT and his role came up.

Stressed the financial commitment from the university and how they need to get a GM in first before hiring a coach. Wants the coach to be "charismatic" and "know how to coach". Not sure how plugged in Arians was, but seems like an ever so slight dig at Pry.

TKP was mixed on Napier - more mixed than they were on Pry, I think. There were some who really strongly advocated for him and others who equally strongly advocated against him. I don't have the receipts but I'm sure they're out there

I remember a lot of us wanted Napier bad when we were searching, and now here he is about to get fired the same year as Pry.

Bruce Arians on the Pat McAfee show today talking about his involvement with the GM and coaching hires and the new financial commitment/restructuring of athletics. Love how we are very deliberately and strategically talking about these changes and resources VT is bringing to show our commitment to the public through the media.

Also when asked about what we are looking for in a coach, Arians mentioned a great coach and someone who can help raise money as the two top criteria. I think he said "someone who is charismatic AND can actually coach ball." Felt like a pretty glaring indictment of Pry right there.

I was going to make one, but I'm about to go on a trip for a bit, and I didn't want to hold up any updates.

The issue with Fuente was both development and too many missed evals of both top talent and developmental talent. Obviously there's a couple standouts with Strong probably the poster child, but if you look through his recruiting classes and offers, there's way too many low end guys who weren't good enough and guys who didn't get offers who played well elsewhere.

It definitely concerns me.

I do think that Whit probably isn't the person to usher us into the new world of college athletics. Just like Netflix probably didn't need ops/supply chain folks after moving from DVDs to streaming.

But I've never felt strongly that he needs to be fired immediately otherwise we're toast.

I just watched this also. Pat and his team said some great things to say about the football experience at VT and Blacksburg. All were nodding in agreement that it has been great and needs to be back to what it has proven to be. I have only thanks to Pat for doing that segment like he did.

Logically it has never made sense on why you would call a press conference to announce you aren't firing someone.

Some of those comments he made during that press conference (at one point I think I recall him saying something like the general public doesn't give enough for their opinions to matter) always kind of felt like he was parroting some bullshit arguments he was hearing from up the chain on why they overruled him.

Yep, that's a bit of what I did growing up in Great Bridge. We'd surf in Sandbridge for convenience, but usually wanted to be in Hatteras if we could get the time. Frisco was my childhood campground with our family, and still one of the best places I remember from those times except one magical night on the beach beside the Billy Mitchell Airport there in Frisco. We hauled our gear and boards over to the beach, hid our camp from the occasional ranger, and surfed the full moon. Unbelievable phosphorescence in the wakes of the boards, and we were the only ones within miles. A bit of enhancement from the entertaining world of the day made things even more stunning, but what a night.
Also saw shark fin in three feet of shore curl at dusk one time down there. At least 18" of fin in impossibly shallow water and spooky as hell. Then one early morning on the Frisco pier, all alone at maybe 2:30 catching trout on every cast, my wife and I saw an incredible hammerhead shark swim along the length of the pier. We're talking head in one light, tail in the last one with a head I can't even estimate. Now that was truly spooky.
Memories for sure, including the time I was run out of the Frisco campground by the ranger telling me that he couldn't help me when his duty ended that evening. Why I asked, would I need your help? Turns out I'd made the mistake of bringing a Black fellow I worked with at Hogshire's Tent and Awning in Norfolk along on the camping/fishing trip. Ahhh, the good ole days. We got the hell out of there and hightailed back to the 757, but I'll never forget that stain on my Frisco memories.
