Whit isnt all bad even though he has failed and keep football competitive. If he manages to see this resurgence through it would help his legacy a lot.
To be fair he was in a thankless position replacing a legendary hall of fame coach that every day we learn won in spite of everything around him.
To be fair on the other hand it doesn't seem like whit did too much to help himself until like last month. But we aren't privy to any behind the scenes stuff.
lol that is kinda funny tho. gotta respect the troll-job
As a seat owner during Covid, we were given several options. Donate the money to tech instead of tickets for double the hokie points, let them hold the money, and use the money for the next years tickets (my option), or get a refund. I think Tech was amazed by how many did options 1 and 2.
Tech also slashed salaries across the board at the athletic department that were apparently not matched by the other departments.
First spring break with my now wife, we decided to head to Hatteras for a week's camping. Big storm came through and the road was becoming flooded seriously enough to halt traffic and shut the road down. We were the last vehicle allowed through. We were in a Ford Custom sedan, 4WD vehicles being pretty rare in those days. We'd drive until the road would rise enough to come out of the water where we'd stop, let the water out of the car, walk the dog and grab another beer before going on at maybe 10-15 mph due to the lack of traction in the water which poured into the floorboards. We passed a couple of stranded jeeps along the way, and basically stayed on the road bed by lining up between the power poles and what road signs there were. Once there, however, we couldn't go back up the coast because the road remained closed for several days after we had to get back to VT. The trip back to Chesapeake where my parents lived was brutal. Ferry to Ocracoke, then the Swan Island ferry and a brutal trip home was the result. It was '73 and we were newly in love, so it ended up being a good trip with no crowds, but the trip through the flooded road still resonates as I see episodic closures down there. Yeah, the car took a major hit and my bag of, well, herbal "medicine" I'd stashed under the seat was unusable, but the trip was epic and we got high on love (yeah, gag me with a spoon, right?).
Yeah. It's like, if we always could....why didn't we

# | VT BoV Approves increase of athletics budget by $47.1m this year, growing to a total budget of $212m in 2029 suddenly? no
been in the works for awhile? probably
We could have survived if Mike's was still there, I bet it was a lot cheaper too.
Almost Nick Sorenson great.
Its easier to modify than create, so just to get a starting point it works well as long as you dont keep anything but concepts
I use it for brainstorming and image reference in painting occasionally.
But otherwise, yes.
It was I
Woodson, kellar, lovett and like 2 more plays that weren't freshman. The freshmen aren't playing anyways
Great example of how AI image generation is great for jokes and memes and very little else
So Whit ain't all bad!
Why now?
We've had a pretty good run over the past 30 years of being able to make chicken salad out of chicken shit and our leadership thought that we could just recapture that magic. With the program bottoming out, we couldn't ignore reality anymore.
I also just read yesterday that we supposedly were one of the very few schools who turned a profit in football during/after COVID. And while that sounds good on paper, the realization there is that everyone else took that time to invest heavily to prepare for the new world of college sports and we stayed the course. Mind you, this also aligns with the timing of when Fuente should have been fired and the debacle over the presser where many suspected he was going to fire Fuente and was overruled.
Wouldn't at all be shocked to find out later that Whit has been beating this drum internally for a while and it falling on deaf ears. And now he's essentially taking a victory lap with the retreat having a resounding "I fucking told you this would happen" theme. Go back and look at that presser from 2020 and some of the responses he gives makes a heck of a lot of sense if you think about it this way
Your telling me a school that couldn't get enough donors until 2016 to pay the student athletes tuition bill is suddenly going to have tens of millions extra each year coming in from donors?

My theory is that it didn't take this long to understand the problem and identify the solution. It took this long to get the proper people on board and find the money. I'd like to believe what we're seeing is a bit of a dog and pony show for something that's been going on behind the scenes for a year or so.
I think this is his brother.
Ah, good 'ol Lane Lane Stadium. It's on its way back!
Why would we hire Chesney as an HC? Isn't he some pop country music singer?
huge bonus for us would be the UF opening certainly is a non-factor for us. Auburn I could see as potentially alluring but I think we could potentially be more attractive than the rest of that field.
What if Florida hires Drinkowitz or Lane? Then Ole Miss or Missouri are open, both of which are in the range of school that would hire Mullen.
I'm not saying Mullen is out of reach for us. I'm just saying it depends on how the dominos fall.
Fuente had a lot of really good evals, Strong and Darrisaw were both low 3* or 2* depending on service and both are in the NFL. They had a 4* issue that the top never really panned out for them for different reasons as Hooker probably would have won the hiesman had he not gotten injured at Tennessee.
Its hard to say Prys staff evaluated well as the number of high school recruits playing is abysmal, but hard to tell if they were not good or didn't develop. We have what 1 of those great WR recruits getting playing time? Maybe 2?
What, the subject of a hoax story?
kg was saying that one other guy is in the portal, do we have any idea who?
Why wouldn't Dan Mullen bring any players with him? Currently 4-0 at UNLV, and Colandrea like him or hate him is playing extremely well under Mullen. I'm sure there are a few guys he could bring, and possibly from elsewhere too due to the name factor of a coach of Mullen's caliber.
Also if we do target Mullen, huge bonus for us would be the UF opening certainly is a non-factor for us. Auburn I could see as potentially alluring but I think we could potentially be more attractive than the rest of that field.

It's always darkest before the dawn?
Make no mistake, this happens in industry all the time, too. People know what the problems are, have ideas about fixes, but it takes management a long time to get on board and then they fire the figurehead and infuse the place with new ideas and money. Oftentimes the leader couldn't get the funding to do what they actually wanted to do, but they take the heat.
