A little slow, but I'm now in. Counting on 4-leaf clover leprechaun style luck to have any chance to just get to mediocre.
Drink. The. Koolaid!
That's Friggin Sweet!
It just seems that most of our offensive contributors have been portal entries rather than recruits and it's a bit troubling.
I don't think it's troubling, I think it's by design.
I'll go a step further, I think this might actually be the new blueprint to be successful at Virginia Tech (or any mid-tier P4 program) in the modern era of CFB.
$30/month from what I'm seeing.
800% 1000% more interesting, in fact
ESPN is launching a direct to consumer option beginning August 21st. No idea of the cost but I believe it will be like Disney+ for sports. You won't need a cable type bundle to access it.
Nobody on Zoom wanted to ask a question today.
This is the important part of the summary that we all came here for /s.
I'm a Hokie that doesn't do the maths all too well, cut me some slack!
I'm actually hoping for dramatic improvements in the offensive line. That is the only way I can see the team being good. And as bad as the offensive line has been for as long as it has been, that is totally possible with the new coach and new personnel. A substantial but not dramatic improvement could be enough to have a decent season, but I'm hard pressed to see better than 5 or 6 wins if the line does not improve or is marginally better given (1) the loss of some big play makers (on offense and defense), (2) our inability to coach up quarterbacks and (3) all the question marks of defense.
OL to me is the linchpin next year.
Nice - bonus musky are always nice, especially topwater. What river are you fishing?
15-0 Baby!
That's a nice baby musky.
wouldn't be that surprised by any outcome this season.
Seriously, me too. In the past, I felt like I had a much better handle on the team's floor and ceiling. I feel like anything between 2-10 and 9-3 is on the table this year. If the stars align, we're a top 4 team in the conference. If none of the transfer portal players hit and our coordinators turn out to be bad fits, we're staring at a very bleak situation and Pry is gone in October.
Now what's most likely? Between 5-7 and 7-5. But it's wild that it feels like the extremes are also possible.
Oh no absolutely not. I think Stiney would have had some value Pry's first year as a behind the scenes analyst or a positional coach though. He's not a great OC by any stretch, but he was always a very solid TE and OL coach and has connections throughout the state. A GM like you said also would make some sense.
But yeah give me Monty and Moore all day as our offensive brain trust.
Hokies!
Man, every time I listen to Pry talk it makes me want the team to be successful on the field so badly. Hopefully wanting to win for Pry and the team is similarly motivating for the players.
This might be my first year as a VT fan that I'm feeling more optimistic about the offense than defense, mostly based on the coaching hires. Really hoping to see modest improvement on OL and results from an OC coming in with an offensive system and play calling experience. I'm also excited to watch whatever happens with a new scheme on defense, but continue to think it was a risky hire for DC and wouldn't be that surprised by any outcome this season.
Thank you for posting and summarizing these pressers.

Flowers was mentioned as the most well-rounded, while Covil was the most complete player,
...what's the difference between being the most well-rounded vs. most complete? Lol.
I've been hitting the rivers for smallmouth mainly this summer. Has been a fun learning experience and enjoyable areas to fish. Both fish were lucky catches. The musky hitting a whopper plopper and not cutting my 20 lb leader. The smallie rocked me in a set of riffles and I had to jump out of my kayak to pull it out.

I hear you on the depth part, if you can get a guy that is better than the rest of the room, no matter how deep the room, you get him. I assume the coaches have a number of roster spots to allocate for each position and hopefully are using the portal to make up for recruiting misses. It just seems that most of our offensive contributors have been portal entries rather than recruits and it's a bit troubling.
Playing devil's advocate here...would you rather have Stiney vs. Monty, Moore or Holt?
I actually like Stiney as a GM...point being, it's not like the pettiness is costing us an elite piece to the coaching staff.
OL is more sound, and we have been able to get more plays off. The most depth we've ever had at the position.
We might be able to go 4 deep this year!!
Thanks, max, putting this together for us is greatly appreciated!

This is an interesting stance considering that they haven't coached a single game for VT yet. And unless you're spot on and they're absolutely grade A coaches, this is likely the only year they'll be on Tech's sidelines.
