If we do well, I am not sure we can underestimate how much better conditioning might have factored into it.
This feels like one of those years where, because expectations are low, we do better than expected. Back in our heyday, we would consistently play down when expectations were high, lose a couple of games early, everyone would write us off, expectations drop, and we rattle off 10 wins after that. Hopefully I am right.

that'll do it. My high school soccer team wasn't fantastic technically but we ran circles around every team we played because we were so much fitter than most of them. We ran all the time - and when rain closed the practice fields our practices weren't canceled - instead it just turned into 2.5 hours of conditioning. It sucked a lot at the time but that is easily the best shape I've ever been in - a year or two after I stopped playing I did a Relay for Life event and ran 18 laps on a quarter mile track in 30 minutes. Now, I struggle to run one mile under 9 minutes.
Sounds like the switch to Ferguson at S&C maybe paying off. If the players are in better condition maybe we don't lose as many games in the 4th Quarter. In another article they asked Emmett Law (DT) how Ferguson got them in better shape, "Running us like a motherf_____" was his reply.
As much as I would love that for JC, I don't see it happening. Worst case it would still be Monty 1-0 versus UVA.

Pry has 3 years left as he signed a 6 year deal. So if he is fired after seasons 4 then he has 2 years

Oh I agree, but searles came from Texas and VT isnt Texas, Grimes did well here and even better after he left so it was just a stepping stone job, Rudolph was a mess but so was that entire staff as im not surrounded anyone knew what to teach. And he came from Wisconsin which haf a history of big oline before him.
Fuente had a 1st and 2nd round QB, some of that was development but you dont get that high with out pure athleticism. You cant teach 6'5". And Pry has easily been replaced at PSU.
Moore did this at WVU which is more apples to apples than all the other places coaches have come from, but will he have time to fix the oline is the question.
Montgomery has concerns as he isnt the Montgomery of 2012 cause the game isnt stuck in 2012. But there hasn't been an OC in VT history with his kind of resume. He's got a lot to prove but he's actually proven it before. Cornelson hadn't, Bowen hadn't, stiney hadnt Loeffler hadnt.

Seriously though, I feel your pain. We live about the same distance north of the Norfolk area and the over the air antenna didn't do doodley squat for me when I tried to watch the Hokies on our "local" CW station as provided to me by Dish. WAVY acquired the station, but their live sports only go out over the air so I'm stuck with reruns of shows nobody watched in the first place, like Judge Judy on CW. Calls to complain weren't effective, either to Dish or to WAVY. Too far from Richmond to get their broadcasts also. We pony up for Dish, and Direct TV before it because the streaming thing just didn't serve our needs and until very recently, we had crappy wifi and it still is often spotty. Out yesterday for 8 or 9 hours. Have to record shows, that's a priority. Add in the regional sports package, which I do every fall and cancel after MBB season, and it comes up to a ten spot over a hundred or so.

I would think well rounded means they do abit of everything well, their tool box is full. Complete is a position thing where they know the position and have put together the physical and mental.
Dax was more complete as he knew the role and fit the role than his well roundeness which took a hit with his athletism in pass coverage.
Magic was well rounded as he could play all 5 positions, Kobe more complete cause he knew everything he needed to know to attack the opposing team.
Counterpoint. Searles, Grimes, Rudolph were all supposed to be OL savants and all of them completely failed in Blacksburg. Fuente was supposed to be one of the best offensive minds in the game when he was hired and our offense floundered under him in Blacksburg. Pry was regarded as one of the best defensive coaches in the business when he was hired from Penn State and our defense hasn't once resembled even a mediocre Bud Foster unit.
All I'm saying is I'm tired of anointing coaches before they even coach a single game for VT. I don't give a flying fuck what a coach has done before. Until they prove they can win consistently in Blacksburg I'm not sold.
Moore is one of the best oline coaches in the nation. Montgomery has a history of fantastic offenses, the question is how fast can Moore work and does Montgomery still have it.
It is interesting in that this season seems like it will be seeing what a higher floor will look like for overall success compared to last year which was a handful of high end talent surrounded by mediocrity. Everything seems to be pointing to overall elevation of the bottom end of our talent at every position. If this is true, and a small handful of players like Drones, Copeland, Woodson, and maybe one WR and one RB play to the top end of their ability, this could be a top 5 ACC team. Then again widespread mediocrity with less top end talent could be a dumpster fire. But I just don't feel like that will be the case this season. Let's. Go.
Here's where ESPN really screwed the pooch by putting all their eggs in the sec basket. If I didn't already know which 6 teams were going to be propped up all year long and felt that my team had even a remote chance at making it to a championship game then I would absolutely pay $30 for the privilege to watch.
But since ESPN has manipulated the sport to tip the scales so heavily in favor of a select few, the sport in general is so uninteresting to me that I wouldn't even consider paying $10 to watch football games that I just don't give a hoot for.
I know I can't be the only non-sec fan who feels this way. I think they're going to wind up losing viewers by the droves because a lot of fans who aren't sec alumni just aren't going to care much longer.
Definitely sounds coach speak-ish to me and I had the same thought.
My best guess at a generous reading that he is actually saying two different things:
Most well-rounded = can play/understands the responsibilities of multiple positions/roles well within the secondary
Most complete = Best at all aspects of the position they play (can cover in zone, cover in man, tackles well, doesn't make mistakes in run fits).
