FSU search is over. They hired Luke Loucks. He is an FSU Alum and was an assistant coach for the Sacramento Kings.
I just hate all these double and triple byes. Just have a regular 16 team bracket with a play in game for the last two teams.
Nobody on this board will be surprised if we lose to Cal by 10 points either.
Anything that keeps us off the Duke side is ok not that I expect much. Three winnable games considering how Hokies played those teams in season. Clemson though is probably the end of any run.
They are pointing to what Miami did by getting the Duke Assistant to sign to be at Miami by March 10th. The key word there is assistant which none of UVAs candidates are. Should be interesting to see if they are so hung up on the date that they go further down their list until they get a yes. I for one hope they do and it sets them back five years.
We all know you can't hire someone that is "still coaching".
There was this in the Augusta Free Press regarding the UVA search. Interesting because at least Odom and McCollum are near locks for the NCAA Tournament so UVA would essentially be asking them to walk away before the Tourney.
Timing
One thing I'm told is important to keep in mind in terms of timing is this date: Monday, March 24.
This is when the 30-day spring transfer portal season opens.
Monday, March 24, is also the Monday between the first and second weekends of the 2025 NCAA Tournament.
The March 24 date is another example of the suits at the NCAA being absolute imbeciles.
Did you see how Miami not only hired Duke assistant Jai Lucas to be its next coach, but insisted that he start on the job on March 10, meaning, he will not be on the sidelines for Duke for whatever its postseason run is?
Things are moving behind the scenes with UVA Basketball on a roughly similar time frame.
From what we're being told, I'd be surprised if we don't have a coach and GM in place by March 24.

So i guess Paige or Matt Hall should bump back up to 1st when Jesse Holmes takes his 8 hour layover in either Eagle Island (unlikely cause hes resting on the trail 16 miles from there), or Kaltag.
Analysts video from late last night in Alaska/early morning east coast noted that Jessie Holmes is really in control now. Well in front, but Paige and Matt Hall have already taken their 8-hours and Jessie still has to do his. But Jessie seems very confident. Did note that Jessie and Matt Failor passed each other going the opposite direction. I'll try and see if I can get a decent screen shot of that later on.
In terms of the race, by the time the teams reach Kaltag2 and pull out for the sea coast, those that want to have a legitimate chance of winning need to be at or close enough to the front to have a good shot. The trail remains bad and slow. Something the lead analyst was planning on paying attention to was the speed Paige and Matt Hall would have relative to what Jessie Holmes does on the way back to Kaltag2. Can they pick up ground as Jessie's team has to break trail on the new snow or will he widen the lead should say a lot about if either can catch him. They also noted that, at some point on the Kaltag Portage to the coast or along the coast, the teams will finally find good, hard-packed trail that will be easier to run on.
Wednesday night or Thursday morning (Alaska time) is when they think a winner will arrive in Nome.
