By the time the window opens 80% of teams are done playing. There are exceptions that allow players that are still playing an extended portal window. The window is also 30 days by which point everyone playing still has over two weeks of the window.

Right SMU wasn't in the tourney with Dean and Gary Williams, etc. Its a far cry from what it was.

Therein-lies the problem... the conference needs to realize that the ACC Tourney isn't the crown jewel that it was two decades ago.

I mean, I think it's surprising. This isn't lack of foresight; it flat out doesn't make sense (to me at least)

Holmes dropped a dog at Eagle Island 2. That may have been cause for his stoppage outside of town. He pulled out at 12:58.

My guess is Paige will be in and out soon, close on his heels.

No surprise, lack of foresight by the people "in charge"

The reward is relative to the ACC (or conference) tourney, not the NCAA tourney.

The root cause of course is 18 team conferences. Tournaments are unwieldy/tough to schedule and the regular season is meaningless anyway because there is nothing close to round robin. Take UNC- 13 ACC wins in 2002 would have gotten them a 2 seed in the NCAAs. Now it's meaningless and they SHOULD be out - but will get in on name this year. They won 13 acc games, but 12 were shit. That's the way it is with these huge conferences now. If South Carolina or LSU win the SEC tournament, they will get 14 out of 16 teams in the field this year. Wow- that regular season was SUPER important.

Yea, that's so bizzare. I hate when the CFB transfer portal opens in December, but I get it: Early/mid-December is when fall semester ends at most schools, so (if you assume that these kids are actually students) they leave their current program right after the semester ends.

What's going on with Basketball? Spring Break portaling?

If your regular season was good enough to be rewarded for, then the result of the ACC Tourney shouldn't matter.

Similar to how the CFPC didn't punish SMU for losing to Clemson in the ACCCG.

Did a 180.. 34 years old never a head coach- Hamilton was the opposite and old school.

I think that's a perception, unless a bubble team is getting byes into the quarterfinals. Playing a Q3 or Q4 team and winning isn't going to offset a loss in the next round.

I agree with aspect, you should have to win at least 3 games in a row to win the tourney. But a play-in round and a first round bye (effectively 2 byes for top teams, seems reasonable).

100% this. Some conferences have byes into the Semi's which is totally ridiculous and unfair

Making the ACC tourney exceeded my expectations. CMY making chicken salad out of chicken shit.

Having the portal open March 24 shows how truly out of touch the NCAA really is.

Not waiting until after the championship game would be like opening the football portal before the playoffs and bowls concluded - oh, wait.....

I think we could beat Cal and Stanford, probably not getting past Louisville on a neutral site. I also think we could lose any of those games by 15.

I like how the bracket ended up for us. Hopefully we can get hot and then someone can do us the favor of upsetting Clemson!

But sometimes byes hurt bubble teams. Getting a bye past first round and then losing in second round is treated by the committee as worse than winning in the first round and then losing in second round. And it shouldn't

Something I just realized looking at the schedule. Maybe of interest to only Wash Nats fans (and MLB/baseball fans in general): Jamie Arnold and FSU come to Blacksburg the same weekend as the Spring game, likely to pitch Sunday the 13th (but not yet determined). Arnold is currently projected to go #1 in the draft to the Nationals. A lefty pitcher that projects to be a starter in the MLB by mid 2026.

It looks like Arnold has been pitching on Sunday, so he probably stays pitching on Sunday through out the season, but maybe they switch it up. In any regard, it may be worthwhile looking to stay until after the Sunday game if this is something that would be of interest.

Eh, the byes reward teams for the regular season. Not a bad thing.

It seems like some of the teams have dropped more dogs than normal already. Interesting they are so confident in Jessie when he still has to make an 8 hour stop with competition only a hour or so behind.
