Hearing from a reliable source that Tim Banks has not signed his contract to renew with UT and wants to be a head coach. Vols fans aren't real happy about it.
I will emphasize this... even if VT got the top 5 players in the state every year, I don't think it would elevate them that much. VHSL is awful and very few programs produce kids that are prepared for college football, much less P4 football. The HS football and talent is much better in Winston Salem-Greensboro-Charlotte (and just south on the other side of the South Carolina border) than in the 757 and Richmond. It is also a shorter and easier trip.
Beamer initially built the program on S&C and finding kids from outside of Virginia to compliment the Virginia kids who wanted to be there. Del-Ricco, Pyne, Freeman, etc. You find the recruit that fits your system and culture, and you be relentless to sell that the place they will succeed best is Virginia Tech. Not take square pegs in round holes just because it sounds good to folks who got wrapped up in the "757" era post Vick.
I still think the Big East falling apart really hurt VT. They were much better at getting good players from PA, MD, and NJ when they had CBS doing regional games across the NE.

To be fair he might get that part of the situation again if he stays at UNC.
Bellichick is the greatest coach in NFL history- so let's stop the "comparison" right there of course. But like Rich Rod- who is never going to have Pat White, Slaton, and a team with a chip on their shoulder competing with USF for BCS games ever again. Never. Bellichick is never going to have the best QB in history, combined with the historically worst division ever over a period of time and an owner with an ego so big he wrote blank checks and would endorse cheating to win. Bellichick is never going to have that situation again.

WADR I take zero stock in this knowing our roster and on paper who we brought in. Zero stock. This is moneyball nonsense, IMHO. This is rating the Marlins roster favorable to the yankees with skewed/biased data. just my view. Bass and the Clemson kid were backups. In Bass's case he was a backup on a team that lost their last 6 games. The 1 WVU OL hasn't played a snap, so I'm not going to assume he is Anthony Munoz. Those 3 are the big fish. Let's keep that in mind. Our backup OG who was never going to play here transferred to the SEC. That tells you the level of talent we currently have. I could be 100% wrong, but I don't put stock into this particular rating.
That's not accurate. The try failed once it hit the ground regardless of whether it was blocked or not.

It's a Mike Young team. We hung in the first half because someone was red hot (brunham) from 3. At half time, the other team realizes who they can attack- everyone- on offense and we can't defend to save our lives. Stanford scored 20 more points the second half vs. what they did in the first. We can not get blown out if we hit 3's. If we don't, we get blown out. IIWII.
And I was wondering why I haven't watched more VT basketball this season. Took me less than 5 minutes of 2nd half game time to remember why.
I saw this article that ASU actually beat Texas as that missed FG with 1:44 left was actually made It was blocked, but is still a live ball and it bounced through the uprights so under NCAA rules it's 3 points. So you know ASU was a ref mistake away from the final 4.

That is the Mike Young system. It works when you have really hot shooters, but when you don't these are the results. I get that the NIL/funding situation for MBB is inexcusable and a large part of the blame, but also CMY I think deserves some blame too. Hired a .500 mid major coach, and we shouldn't be too surprised at the results.
