Yeah I have been very excited about this possibility. If Dex and potentially JSJ come onboard, the recruiting possibilities are phenomenal. As you mention Dex is a very good coach and highly respected, he has major pull. Quinn and X Adibi coaching LBs, Cheetah, and Price coaching DTs. Top it all off with Bud assisting in a defensive Jerry Kill role? I am completely on board with that.
I want to be in the room when you tell the SEC they have to kick out 8 teams and the B!G that they are splitting East - West into two different conferences.
I love PJ... but man it would be cool if he was a lock down, physical safety/nickel like his father was!!
Quite frankly, if we have Dex with Bud actively advising him on how to be an all-in DC, then I think that's better than anything we have had since Bud retired. Dex is a good coach, gets extremely high praise everywhere he's been and is an excellent recruiter. The missing piece there managing everything on gameday, but if you have Bud around with a headset on showing him the ropes?
Ok, that's a situation I can get excited for
Another thing potentially noteworthy from Bitter's tweets. PJ Prioleau has now been moved on scholarship. He has been a PWO up until now. Interesting timing because it could hint that his dad is now moving back to an off the field role rather than one of the main coaches. Pry has said there could be additional shuffling of the staff depending on the coordinator hire. Very interesting since if PP is moving to another role, it opens up a DC/S coach (like Dex).
If it is just watching film and practice and pointing out what's wrong or what opponents are going to do the Bud probably does that on his couch every weekend for fun.
Yeah I didn't take into account any NFL coaches so that is an outside possibility.
For what it's worth, you could give $18,000 per year to someone in 2024 and it is now $19,000 for 2025 according to the IRS website.
https://www.irs.gov/businesses/small-businesses-self-employed/frequently...
"The annual exclusion applies to gifts to each donee. In other words, if you give each of your children $18,000 in 2024, the annual exclusion applies to each gift. The table below shows the annual exclusion amount applicable in the year of the gift.
Annual Exclusion per Donee for Year of Gift
2011 through 2012 $13,000
2013 through 2017 $14,000
2018 through 2021 $15,000
2022 $16,000
2023 $17,000
2024 $18,000
2025 $19,000"

Remember that a lot of NFL team staffs will turnover beginning in 1 week. Are there any candidates from that pool of "teams still playing" that we're omitting.

announcement hampered by "coaches still in games."
Gotta be Vic Fangio
Absolutely. Oregon's pummeling was the worst showing in the entire playoffs so far. They were down 34-0 in the first half!
In fact, the Oregon beatdown completely torpedoes any argument that: 1) Teams like SMU, Boise State and Indiana didn't belong, and 2) That conference champs shouldn't get byes/top 4 seeds. The overall top seed in the whole tournament is the team that most looked like it didn't belong.
Agree on all points, we're not getting Knowles or Kwiatkowski or anyone on that level so of the remaining list Dex is the best up there. I think we'd be getting a known quality recruiter with less experience as a sole DC. To me its safer than hiring a young "up and coming" DC from a non-p4 level or a position coach those aren't risks Pry can afford to take at this point.
Imagine being the Molly that got whopped so bad the entire English language made it a thing.
Poindexter is realistically the best VT can do IMO. I'd be a lot happier if he was the lone/actual DC at Penn State, but hey. I saw that defense in person the other night- they are good/well coached. But they were good under Pry too. That hasn't quite rubbed off here yet.
I must confess, Tennessee getting molly-whopped was too glorious to look away. I did watch every minute of that one.
Yeah, I must have pissed off ASU or something. That 4th quarter was something else. I was pulling hard for the upset.
Deserving is 100% subjective, but could be applied in a meaningful way- as in who PROVED this regular season that they deserve a shot at the national title? That's what this should be about- an honest attempt to prove who the best team is at the end of the playoff. Did Boise State proved they deserved a chance- not in the fiesta bowl- but a chance to actually win it all? This is the problem I have with 9 big 12 hoops teams- many with under .500 records getting at large bids to the dance. THAT regular season is totally meaningless. Can Oklahoma hoops - 5-13 in the Big 12 WIN the natty? nope, so get them the fuck out of the dance. NC State 1983 you say? well the only way they got a chance was winning the ACC tournament - they PROVED that they could beat quality teams 3 games in a row to get there. Then they were shipped to literally a no tell motel in portland for the first and second round. lol. I think the committee should reward the regular season- yes 100%, but work backwards... what 12 teams have PROVEN they can compete for an actual title. Take bama this year- they lost to Vandy and OKlahoma... they weren't winning this playoff. That's the right call. I know its nuance, but if they worked backwards, I think the field would have been a little different.
If Bud is going to advise in film study and self scout, I think it would be a good role for him. Just need to give some notes from what he sees on film and if he wants to show up for a session or two a week then that is up to him.
He has too much experience to let some one else use if he is bored and wants to do something football related.
Yeah mentally going through the short list of coaches still coaching. ND, UGA, TEXAS, LSU DCs are not coming to Blacksburg and I don't recall and connection to position coaches there that would make sense. That leaves
Penn St - Pointdexter with the obvious connections
Duke - Patke no connection to Pry tree tight connection to Diaz,
Minnesota - Hetherman I'm sure hm and Pry knnow each other previous Rutgers LB coach ,
Liberty Magee followed Chadwell since Charleston So.
UB - Joe Bowen no relation to Tyler, first year DC at UB.
Then looking forward and tying it back to this thread Bud Foster LB coach? Dex DC + Safties, that would move Prioleau though (I think it needs to be done but where would he fit then)
And you could also not have Bud and still have all those things, except Bud being called a dinosaur.
Without knowing the answers to the questions of "who is the DC?" and "what is Bud's actual involvement?" we can't even begin to know whether his increased involvement will be a good thing or a detriment.

Is that as part of the new requirements, where it's 105 limit and all on scholarship? Basically this would confirm that he's on the team next year.
Someone correct me if I'm factually off base with that thought
