How does Tennessee not move down at all,

It's all relative. If Houston had not lost, then Tennessee would have dropped down to #10. A&M and Louisville would have just flipflopped positions.

At first I was upset to see that we may be encountering Noter Dame at their lowest point in a while, I would much prefer to knock off a team riding high, what with their natural tendency towards high horses. But it is now a distinct possibility that they come into that game with 4 wins and bowl eligibility on the line. Now that would be a satisfying beat down in South Bend.

I'm not saying they didn't belong - I'm saying that if the standard were beating someone who is already ranked, VT hadn't done that. Now they have, so it's all good.

Going undefeated will carry you a long way, particularly if it's late in the season.

Not to worry, though. Nebraska will play Ohio State and Wisconsin, so they will be tested.

The validity of the rankings certainly improves as more games are played.

This matchup against a wildly ineffective Syracuse defense in the Carrier Dome will be a great chance for Virginia Tech to really test their potential on offense. It'll also be a great chance for the secondary to get some good work in against some pretty talented Syracuse receivers (mainly Amba Etta-Tawo). I'm really looking forward to what Fu and Corny come up with in terms of establishing a formidable run game and if our defense can continue to dominate.

Agree with everything you and Mog said. You've given me a fresh perspective on rankings that actually makes it easier to stomach.

I generally pay no attention to them anyway until the last few weeks of a season anyway, but your explanation will definitely make me look at them a different way.

Ya, screw that.

Let me repeat: I AM NOT AT THIS MOMENT LOOKING FORWARD TO MIAMI!

That would be heresy and counter to all natural law. I'm ashamed at my moment of weakness in bringing it up.

I now look forward to the only game that counts, and that is Syracuse.

Dino sided with Shawn Michaels in the Montreal screwjob.

He's in the third week of wearing his boot so 5 weeks left than they will reevaluate his status. Wouldn't be surprised if this is another Ahmed Hill situation where he finally gets fully healthy later on in the year and at that point there is point in not redshirting him.

The question is how long they can ride that wave as far as income. That's all they really care about when the difference between indy and conference status is that large.

Good news - 8 buses and over 400 people. Bad news we aren't adding another bus. Several people who have reached out have mentioned the Irish Express. And if ND keeps losing, you might have just as many Hokies as ND fans on that one. There is going to be lots of maroon and orange in South Bend!

I think it's also safe to say that a lot of these recruits want exposure for themselves when they do start to play college ball. They want the glory and eyes on them.
