Against Ohio St we played a perfect game. Like almost an absurdly perfect game. Brewer was making passes I haven't seen a VT QB make possibly ever, fitting the balls through the tiniest of gaps (giggidy). Thing is, everyone on here acknowledged the fact that we played perfect and everything that could go right went right that night. It was the perfect storm. The magic of that evening soon wore off, and once we started playing football that wasn't perfect, the scheme we had on offense didn't put ourselves in a great position to win most games, and we struggled.
That's not the position we're in now. The scheme we run puts ourselves in position to make plays. We don't have to be, nor have we been, perfect to put up points this year. The last 2 games easily could have seen the scoreboard balloon up past 70 if we were hitting on all cylinders, but we weren't. But that's also what makes this season interesting, because we're capable of rolling teams even if we're not perfect. That's why there's just cause to be optimistic.

I don't think anyone should calm down at all. I understand we have been playing like an avg Joe team the past couple of years and what not but I don't get how we can use that as a meter for this current team. Yes, the pieces are the same for the most part from those years but we have a new guy moving those pieces around and making those big calls. Its pretty much a 180. The only thing that feels similar about this team is the defense and even that feels like it has a new and improved engine. Past players, mainly when listening to Huddlecast with Sean glennon and Cory holt, see a completely different VT squad as well. Though we should be catious cause we haven't "earned" the 25 ranking yet, we should still be super pumped!
It was always foolish to disrespect any team that has Bud Foster on its sideline, even when we were a .500 team. We might not have been good, but we always had a defense that could keep us in a game and give you a damn scare.
Now we have an offense that just put up an average of over 50 per game the last 2 games, and we still have Bud Foster on the sidelines. If you're still disrespecting us and overlooking us now, you're a damn fool, and you deserve the gut punch this VT squad is capable of giving you.
Like a couple others have said about the weather: just looked up underground and weather channel and they're both calling for 2-3inches. Tomorrow is going to be fun. Maybe the under wouldn't be a bad call.
I saw the "is it?" with a thinking emoji and based off other interactions w recruits it seems he was doing a little what if, playing the field. Didn't seem he was being sarcastic to make fun of it.

We are 1-3 against those 2 teams the last 2 seasons. Its not that we beat 2 teams. We thoroughly dominated 2 teams that have been a thorn in our side the last couple years. By trashing them like we did, it shows the team is sharp and focused again. Also, we scored more than 100 combined on them with a combined margin of victory around 80 or so. We know what Bud Foster can do, we have known what Bud Foster can do for nearly 2 decades now. If you have Bud Foster on your defensive sideline, you have a chance to win every game, and now we are starting to see that we have an offensive staff that may potentially embolden that same belief as well. You combine those 2 together, and I don't blame anyone for getting puffy chested right now about VT football.
What I don't get is the constant need of some to continually try and throw cold water on any positive energy surrounding the program right now.
I remember looking at some threads after the @OSU game and everyone was already talking ACC Championship and playoffs. It really doesn't take a whole lot to get us going even though our dreams are dashed over and over again. I always tell myself that I'm going to temper my expectations, but I always end up buying into the hype at some point.
Hold on now, I didn't say anything like what you're implying. I'm of the opinion that our #25 ranking is a bit premature. UNC should have some swagger, they've been playing really well for the last 1.25 seasons.
What I'm saying is that this matchup has also been pretty even these last few years, and it would be silly to suggest that UNC has looked anything dominant against us even in our recent down years. We're 2-2 against each other the last 4 years, and all of those games were competitive. So no, I don't agree that it's expected for them to look past us, because the objective evidence points to two teams in a similar place.
Cautious optimism should be the appropriate mood for both teams at this point, but his prediction definitely
gave me the vibe he's feeling a lot more confident in the outcome than he should be.

To me, this game is possibly the biggest of our season. The last two games have had us all seeing what can be, but I think tomorrow will show what this team is now. I believe in our guys, and I think we can get it done. I'll be there in Kenan no matter how much it rains and can't wait to see what this team is really made of. Let's do this...

The confidence isn't even close to justified though. I mean just step back and look at our schedule...lost our only big time match up so far, beat up on BC and ECU. BC and ECU!!! Who cares?!?! They are really bad at football and the one thing fans seem to hang their hat on is that BC has a great defense, and we scored 49, but it happens.
If we win out the year and make the playoffs, confidence is justified, but until then we are just a yearly mediocre team trying to get back to former glory.
Agreed. I've missed going into games against good teams where both sides believe they're going to win. I appreciate Andrew's insight and the fact that he did it on his own time for free. That doesn't mean I have to agree with him though. I think we may be overreacting a little bit.

Yeah, I kind of agree here. Even the last 2 games, we didn't exactly jump on the opponent right away. Sometimes I think the grit factor might be overplayed a bit, and its more on the coaches and players learning and knowing how to adjust and adapt to better beat your opponents when things aren't going your way.
That Tennessee game... I know we put the ball on the ground way, way too many times, but other than that, we had a good gameplan and the team was executing well. Sometimes you're just snakebit like that. The team learned from their mistakes, and got better because of it. We play the same way tomorrow that we did against Tennessee and we limit turnovers, the game could get lopsided in our favor.

But, really I agree,, I don't see anything wrong at all with what the guy said. Should he have predicted a VT win? I'm starting to think many of us are drinking the maroon and orange Kool-Aid too much. But damn is it delicious.
Counterpoint: To a certain extent, I'm glad to see a return to the mindset of screaming, "The fuck you are!!!" whenever anyone predicts the other side is gonna win. Saying he's drinking the kool-aid is probably a tad harsh. But I'm loving the return of confidence and perceived disrespect to the fanbase. I haven't really felt it like this since I was on campus in the late 90s and early 2000s.
And I'm sure that was weighing heavy on their minds as they walked off of Lane with the win last year...
I don't know about that m8. You're only pointing out our strengths. You are neglecting our weaknesses which are UNC's strengths...
Aside from Evans when plays break down, we can't run the ball for sh*t. Our only hope if it becomes a thunderstorm game is to give Evans the ball on designed QB runs a lot at the start of the game so that when we run the option the DE's and Linebackers key on him opening up the pitch.
Evans success on the ground will open up the otherwise terrible running game we have. Honestly, I can't believe our backs have performed so poorly this year. If its a rainy muddy game our lack of run game from the backs is going to hurt us.
