It was a local news feature up in NY as well, they've been showing up in several states outside of schools. Copycats stemming from SC as far as anyone knows. They also reported (or maybe this was Facebook) that one clown had been shot by a driver or homeowner that wasn't taking any crap.

MrsEMC said they'd been sighted up (down) in Winchester amongst other places.

Police departments have been issuing statements that it isn't funny and is dangerous because there's no way to tell who's being a joker and who has evil intent.

No wonder coaches don't mind being fired, here's section explaining Virginia's buyout last year:

# U.Va.'s agreements with London and his staff stipulate that any obligation is decreased by subsequent employment of any kind. So the amounts cited below are maximums.

# With just one winning record in six years, London has next season remaining on his contract. If dismissed, he would be due a year's base salary ($399,300) and year's supplemental pay ($2,169,679), a total of $2,568,979. Despite the Cavaliers' struggles, London received a $750,000 retention bonus in January.

# Defensive coordinator Jon Tenuta is contracted through Dec. 31, 2017 at $500,000 annually and would be entitled to $1 million if excused at the end of this year.

# London's other eight assistants have letters of appointment that expire at various times from Jan. 29 (linebackers coach Mike Archer) to June 30 (defensive line coach Jappy Oliver, offensive line coach Dave Borbely, and running backs coach Chris Beatty). Based on a separation date of Dec. 31, Virginia would owe them a combined $579,083.

# So Virginia's maximum obligation to London and his staff would be $4,148,062.

I left Vinton day 1 after Graduation and never looked back. I didn't make it far though as I met and married a Salem girl. You would be amazed at how big a difference 15 miles can make. Great HS football team and game day atmosphere, a straight shot to my land in Craig County, less hostile Police force, and not an ex-girlfriend in sight.

Loved Grantland, too bad Simmons and ESECPN could not work out there differences. Too bad he ended up on HBO and not a no-pay channel...

It started in SC with a group of kids at an apartment complex reporting a person dressed as a clown trying to lure them into the woods nearby. This was a month or so ago, I think. A few adults then reported similar things at that complex. There have been other reports of similar incidents in other states, I think one near Baltimore was a confirmed hoax, but I haven't kept more than a casual eye on the stories.
