Those teams also run a completely different scheme. LSU's plan just ignores using the QB to do anything but hand off and hope your really good RB wins the games.

Rewatching the game Sunday morning, the phrase that kept coming to mind was "scraping." We scraped like some badasses on D all day.

Scottie Montgomery thinks he's clearly the best first-year coach in this matchup.

The jokes basically write themselves:

First-year ECU coach Scottie Montgomery isn't trying to turn the Pirates into Duke East.

...BECAUSE IT'S 5 WHOLE DAYS TIL THE NEXT GAME AND WE HAVE TO TALK ABOUT SOMETHING!!!!

Thought every LOLUVA thread was a misery thread.

TMac has more carries than Bama's number 1RB.

The numbers might be better, but 1+5+7 are still on the field for every important snap. Just like the previous two years, the coaches call for more depth at receiver has not been reflected in the playing time. All three of them played almost every snap against UT. Carroll got some time in place of Phillips in the first half of BC.

Maybe with the 2nd coaching staff finding the same results, it is just representative of the skill of these three. It's hard to keep those guys off the field. But it would be nice to see Deablo and/or Wilson giving Bucky some rest. He looked noticeably winded in the first half against BC.

The key word in the first sentence is "primetime" relative to the disappointing loss to Tennessee. Our game against BC was not televised (except for ESPN U subscribers). This seems to be an on-going theme for us. If its a highly visible game, we tank. If we are shoved off to some obscure TV venue, we shine.

None of our guys are as good as those four you just mentioned.

On the other hand, I see your point with a guy like Chubb because he has an all-world backup in Sony Michel, and Michel only has ~10 carries so far this year.

Yes Whit did a solid hire, but Frank really should've retired a few years ago, so he's hardly a savior in that respect. Because Frank didn't know when to hang it up, Lefty did the best he absolutely could with the shoddy pieces we initially had. So yes I think Lefty did save us - without him we'd probably have been below 500 easily with O'Cain and company still recruiting and providing offense as they did.

I guess i'm not sure where your anger lies - the fact that Lefty didn't do more with what little he had (which in my count isn't fair) or the fact that Beamer didn't hire someone other than Lefty that's more to your liking? Considering the fire dump he had inherited, I don't blame Lefty for anything, and certainly not this charge or overselling and under performing.

We just put up 49 points and 200+ yds rushing on a very good defense while using multiple backs and people are still calling for a feature back. WHY???

Fuente gets giddy when talking about JUICE and I wouldn't be surprised if he continues to see more carries. Memphis's Doroland Dorceus meet VT's Marshawn Williams

1a-McMillian
1b- Juice
2 Sam or Shai

Regardless, by the time November comes around and it's time to play us...

Joe, can we have a dedicated "loluva misery" thread? Or is this it?

If you have a talented enough player at the position plenty of teams still have feature backs. I know people hate comparing us to the Alabama, ohio state, lsu's of the world etc but it's not as if feature backs don't still exist.

Dalvin Cook
Fournette
Chubb
Freeman etc.

If we truly had one back that was great I think he'd be earning the lion's share of the carries. I don't think Fuente knows if he has that yet in any of our RBs though.

I don't really want to see them going winless.

I'd prefer they win just enough to keep Bronco around for a while.

It's amazing how quickly we all forget about how absolutely horrid we were in the red zone two seasons ago. We are killing it this year.

Memphis didn't have the ability to recruit the type of athletes we can have at VT.
