I agree that public investment in transport is a great idea. Part of the solution is to bring the public along, and part of it is to have the government focus on infrastructure, instead of the pandering generally done before elections to promise free stuff. And by free stuff I mean benefits that politicians promise someone else will pay for, and then later slide the bill under the door of most taxpayers. Both parties do it.
