There are official TKP viewing parties in NOVA at First Down in Ballston, including the season kick-off happy hour next Friday, August 26. First Down is a site sponsor, and I believe those viewing parties were part of the sponsorship agreement. This is a good idea, but I think it's already being implemented in a slightly different way.
Unfortunately I'm pretty far away in here South Carolina but it's pretty typical for businesses down here to raise money through a golf tourney. I'm sure there are a bunch of tkpgolfers up in Nova (and maybe someone even works at a golf course!) and setting one up isn't too difficult. Courses are usually pretty good about hosting these types of things and if you could find a golf course that's owned/managed by a Hokie or has some VT ties, it might be even easier/more lucrative.
Instead you'd have to fix the app for every phone version. And I can say from experience that fixing bugs in a closed environment in Objective C is NOT FUN. Web development is considerably cheaper and easier in most cases.
My story about that UNC game is that I was watching at my then-fiancee's apartment as she was in the process of moving. So, her couch was gone, and we were sitting on an air mattress that was slowly deflating and needed constant reinflating. Plus, her TV started to die that night, so the top corner of the picture was kind of twisted and started to turn green, and I believe the discoloration started working it's way down as the night progressed.
At least I got to throw the TV in the dumpster the next morning.
The RVA Hokie Club needs to get their head out of their ass and stop hosting at Buffalo Wild Wings. Last time I went for a game they didn't even put sound on so they could have a chicken wing eating competition. The other time they had the game on two tvs in the corner. I've talked to several bar owners who would be THRILLED to host these events. I'd bet good money that someone who actually gave a damn about doing it well would bring in a sizeable crowd, even if it wasn't official.

I'm in the same boat you are, though. Just started a new job at Tech so I won't be getting a paycheck for another month or so. I plan on joining TKPC immediately following our victory over BC to improve our record to 3-0.
If you want to complain to Joe about the site, donate. If you don't want to donate, don't complain. This isn't shaming or "divisive". If you want to enjoy something thats free, don't complain about the quality of content (which is excellent), the noisy ads (hit the mute button), or the site format (which is also excellent).
When you donate, you empower Joe to keep this thing rolling and you earn the right to give some negative feedback (without being a douche). MONEY TALKS. If you can't afford to donate, continue enjoying the free content while it lasts (hopefully a long time), and keep your complaints to Joe to yourself. You aren't a lesser member and you know it.

Clark is usually dead on with this, but I think he has one of these represented wrong. Seed #6, I'm not sure this was in 2000, I'm pretty sure it was 2002 against WVU when Randall threw the INT with 20 seconds to go in the end zone when we were down 21-18 on the like 5 yard line on 2nd down. I remember this because I was sitting next to the WVU section and the hate for that evening is forever burned into my memory.
