In case anyone is curious, he just debuted at #67 overall in the 247sports preliminary top100. That's good for number 2 in the state behind Ford and number 3 corner in the country.

Since I graduated back in 1980, I have to say this is one season that I don't have a clue how this team will play, good or bad. In past seasons there were years where I thought we be great and then a loss to Temple happens and the season tanks and I have seen us loose our first two games and then we win the Sugar Bowl against Texas. So this year I am going to sit back and enjoy the ride, keeping moderate expectaions. Speculation is fun though.
Can we also vote for an update to the VT bookstore site? It's bad enough that Campus Emporium runs circles around them in terms of shipping and customer service but my god, that website is awful.
One of the companies I worked for was international in nature and we did look into what was necessary to include Chinese and other languages with many more characters than our existing databases allotted. We found that we would need to change the format of how we stored the data in every file and change and recompile every program we had over the databases. Since Chinese school children study English as a mandatory requirement in school and many of them speak better English than many of us born in this country so that they can read the technical manuals of the world, it was deemed to be more than our small company wanted to take on at the time. That's not to say that the features you desire can not be incorporated in many other ways apart from the oriental script for Chinese, Japanese, Korean, etc. I would like to think with the large number of foreign students VT has coupled with it's resources being much more extensive than any of the companies I programmed for, that they might seriously consider making the conversion to multi language as well as the other feature upgrades now common in so many places. Every field reference on every screen would also need to be rewritten and reference a database to determine which language to display in each spot on each screen. That's what intrigues me about your reference to USCw already doing this (wondering if they may have come up with a more generic way of handling this at a higher level of programming).
Wrestling greatness just seems like a perfect match for VT's sports identity.
I remember when my son wrestled in his first match way back when...talk about intensity as a parent. That is as amped as you will ever get watching your boy out there mano a mano. Great sport.
IMO the UNC and Clemson sites look even less modern than hokiesports.

Wife grew up in Knoxville, 4/7 of her family went to UT. Hung out with them and their friends. Not bad people but very similar to Miami fans: inflated sense of football superiority, alumni aren't too bad to be around, non-alumni fan base living around the school bring the average way way down.

Every time I head to Suffolk from VB, I think "thufferin' thuffolk" in my head (no offense to all of you Suffolkians out there).
Memphis was #13 in FEI last year, nobody is expecting that this year.
My metric, which started this discussion, was top half, maybe top 4. Top half in the ACC would have been 74th in FEI, between UVA and Duke. FSU was #27 at 3rd place in the ACC, Pitt was #37 at 4th place.
To be top 75 in FEI most certainly should be our expectations with this offensive talent. To be top 35 is probably our ceiling, but attainable.

When I signed up to access the alumni database and updated my information it did give me option about sharing information, but almost everyone on these databases wants old friends to be able to contact them. And yes, the alumni office has contacted me much more often than the IRS.
I meant outsourcing from the actual Ath Dept staff in response to HokieFireman's comment about the cost in man hours. But I wholeheartedly agree with you.

I think the biggest difference here is that football is a primary risk and not secondary risk. I,as a fan, cannot get brain damage from second hand concussions that football players have. Therefore it is completely up to the individual to choose to partake or not.
whether those risks are known or disclosed is a different matter. But the freedom to choose to play a dangerous sport is not limited to football, as Hokierick points out.

I think it's interesting you have us getting to Charlotte with a loss to Miami. If they can beat a 10-win Hokies team in Lane on a Thursday night they are probably good enough to win the division.
