Why not keep kickoffs but require that all but two players on the receiving team line-up within 10 yards of the line of scrimmage. This would slow-down the hits to something closer to a punt situation and would actually expand kicking strategy when that much of the field is available as "uncovered" for the kicker to use.

But the momentum changed Monday when ESPN reported that the ACC would soon announce a partnership on a new cable network and had agreed to a so-called "grant of rights" locking in its members for the next 20 years.
That means more money for the ACC, more stability and more of a threat to the Big 12 should another league — say, the Big Ten — consider expansion again the next decade.

Foster's comments like this further my belief there was a riff between TG and BF. Kinda sounds like Bud didn't want to shuffle, but Torian did anyway.

# | Elimination of the kickoff on the table by college football rules committee I don't view it as shaming or discrimination; think of it more like wrestling weight classes. There's a heavyweight division, but you can't put a 500-lb guy in that class since he's well over the upper limit. I don't know how it's actually workable in the case of football, because anyone can hit anyone, but it circumvents Baylor's approach of having a 400-lb TE trying to be tackled by 200-lb DBs. Perhaps by leveling the playing field, the thought is that fewer collisions of disparate mass would occur, though I think this is probably an inefficient way of doing it.
Re: #2. I think concussion rates in Rugby are considerably less than football. They deal with more face lacerations and broken bones and noses, but those are preferable to brain injuries. Removing the helmet (and pads) would slow collisions way down, but it would drastically affect the forward pass and change the game as whole....certainly way more than eliminating the kickoff.
So no 300lb lineman? 230lb running backs? How long until a group rises up and fights the inclination that they can't perform a task because of weight? Are you trying to fat shame?

Sounds alot like another highly rated recruiticorn that we kept shuffling around to different positions and he could not stick anywhere. Hopefully Newsome can stick here and provide some help to the team.

I'm happy to hear that Bud wants to stop shuffling people around. I think that over the years we tried to put the best player in the best position for the team a little too often, instead of putting a player in their best position and sticking him there. If we find a position for a guy and give him time to absorb it, I think we'll be better off.
strength should be a big difference for the average freshmen versus someone who has been in the program for a few years. At least if he has been putting in the work, which may not be the case with deon seeing as he's been in the dog house almost his whole time here.

Is there a significant difference between playing a Freshman that came in as a DB and playing a guy who has very little experience, and it's on the other side of the ball?
Amazing post, and made me watch the show. Huge science fiction buff and have been waiting for a show like this.
For those that ever saw the movie Explorers, 1980s flick, this show mirrors it so well. More importantly, the kid from Explorers is almost identical to the kid from this show. It is incredible, just look on IMBD, it will mess with your head.

If they are going to mess with the kickoff, they should move the ball back to the 20 and give teams the option to either punt or kickoff (like in an onside kick). Most--except those with extraordinary kickers--would choose to punt.
As for the safety of the game:
1) Put the resources into creating a helmet that makes concussions nearly impossible.

As much as I love this show I tend to agree with this. The big reveals have happened. We know what it is and what 11 is. Not sure where it goes from here to keep things fresh and not a regurgitation of the first season.
