No need to hit the panic button. Save that until Motuapuaka gets hurt.
Certainly another plausible reason. We can't know how the coaches rated him. I thought the kid was talented for a true freshman.
It seems like I take the BC rivalry a bit more seriously than most Hokie fans do. I remember from 2006-2008, I don't think there was a team I hated more. It felt like BC was the team in our way whenever we were trying to accomplish something. VT-BC I in 2007 is my toughest moment as a fan, regardless of sport or team. I'm not going to forget the contempt a 14 year-old me had for Matt Ryan jumping into Jeff Jagodzinski's arms in triumph, or the thrill of the game-sealing TD interception return by Xavier Adibi to get revenge in the ACCCG.
Other than Miami and UVA, BC is the one team that we've consistently played every year throughout my lifetime. I personally wouldn't want to throw that aside.
Wow. This just bakes my brain. Motu has been such a liability back there.
Especially since both Motu and Huelscamp are red shirted juniors. Need to get somebody good behind them fast, especially with the injury history of these guys.
I imagine it was the exact opposite. He was well behind Motu but wasn't going to be redshirted because depth just isn't there. Which means he wasn't going to start until he was a senior - if ever.
If he transfers, he redshirts and still has 3 yrs to get significant PT.
Shit. Will either Tavante Beckett or Emmanuel Belmar play inside?
All very good points. If this was an exercise to just redistrict the conference into new divisions, I would not be opposed to being placed in a division with NC State and letting it play out. Basically, what happened with us and GT being placed in the Coastal.
But just picking one more school to be a designated rival, Pitt is probably more qualified than NC State.
I don't want to speculate, but playing time would be my hunch.
Seems if you have a strong brand symbol, abandoning it can hurt you in the intimidation department. If your brand isn't so strong then maybe it becomes a motivator ? Was kind of skeptical when first reading this as one oddball season could skew statistics quite a bit, but may explain why Nick Sabin never allows Alabama to wear special uniforms ... he's no dummy.
Pure speculation but I have to wonder if coaches asked him to redshirt after getting playing time as a true freshman last season. I wish he had stayed. I thought he did well to bring the boom in scrimmages.
Crap. Liked this kid. Crap. Damnit crap fuck shit

He must know he isn't in line to get a lot of playing time. I really doubt Bud will give up on Moto and with Huelskamp coming back, that would put Lydon third in line. It sucks because as a whole the team is incredibly thin at LB. At this rate, I'm bracing for an underwhelming defense for 2016...but I hope I'm wrong.
Who does that leave other than Motuapuaka and Huelskamps?
Sigh.
It would never of happened. The whole state could have imploded and been annexed by Cuba while espn footed the bill for the program.

At this point, I have no idea what our standard uniforms are, much less "alternate"

Joe you seemed to be one of first on this. Any thoughts to where or why? Seems with so few backers he had a good shot here.
Are there any stats out there about how often a recruit recommits/ signs with the school he decommitted from? What are the odds he ends up at Cal? I would guess it's pretty low.
Isn't this the guy that filled in well for Moto when he was hurt? Shit!
Ahhh dammit, I was really hoping he would beat out Moto for the starting role. Really liked this kid.

If he wasn't going to beat him for the job, which was pretty unlikely, he wasn't going to play except on special teams.
