Anybody else think that might be the first game for a new West Virginia Head Coach?

I guess I am an odd person then. In high school during spring break, I drove from New England to check out Virginia Tech to see if it was the kind of school where I might want to go to college.
I grew up in the heart of WV and have dozens of WVU fan and alumni friends. Oddly, when talking about this game those people have largely demonstrated more respect towards VT than most VT fans can muster for them.
Granted, they have a reputation that causes that reaction, but we should all be very aware that each fan base has a bad bunch mixed in. The problem at WVU is that theirs is far worse than most. That doesn't, however, mean that they have no fans deserving of our hospitality or respect.
Williams and his staff will never, I repeat never, luck into a prep star in their backyard, because they don't really have one.

You can pick your friends, and you can pick your nose, but don't pick your friend's nose.
They may not be an academic rival, but it is still a university. I never really thought it was the students or alumni that were the piss and battery hurling idiots. Its all the scum of the earth that never got out of high school, but root for WVU because they live in the state, that have never met enough people from outside of West Virginia to know how to act in public.
The upper echelon of recruits will obviously go wherever they want. They not only travel for official visits, but all year around with their AAU teams. But what about everyone else? What about the kids that Tech will realistically sign, especially over the next few years? They're good, maybe even great, but aren't McDonald's All-Americans.
Guys go where they know, and the more visits they take the better they know a program. It's absurd to say someone would only go to a school close to home, but aren't they more likely to go somewhere they've visited 5 times instead of 1?
In Virginia's current top-20 players, 2 are uncommitted, 6 have gone long distance and 12 have stayed within 5 hours of home.
Tech's problem is the simple act of dragging someone out to visit on their own dime. If you were a high school junior would you rather: A. Use a whole weekend to visit Blacksburg B. Use 5 hours of your Saturday to visit somewhere close, like a Baltimore kid visiting UMD, and then have the rest of your weekend to chill C. Go somewhere cooler that's about the same distance as Tech (ie a kid in Fairfax going to Villanova/Philly or NCST/Raleigh instead).
It's definitely not a death sentence, because Buzz has obviously gotten kids there. But it's something that makes the job more difficult.
That's amazing. My wife has had some unique ones, but nothing too crazy.

Roanoke has put out some pros. Talent level has dropped a bit, but once a decade players are in the area. Lynch, Redick, Daniels.

I wish I had a better report. We went sight casting for cobia out of Hatteras Inlet on Monday. We had sunshine, calm water, and light winds. It should have been perfect. We didn't see a cobia all day. We did manage a good haul of spanish, bonita, and bluefish trolling clarke spoons while looking for cobia, but it wasn't the intended target. The highlight was my stepson catching a 6lb bonita on light tackle.

Agree with you and I'm in the same camp with you regarding Chew's decision. But just to play devil's advocate, Dell Curry was from Grottoes, Va. and Ralph Sampson (absolutely should've had him, he had us in the top 3) was from Harrisonburg...pretty much Tech's backyard...so there's major talent in the backyard. But I know what you were meaning and I agree.

# | Buzzketball Loses a Coach, Gains a Recruit, Left With More Questions I mean I'm sure this was the case 20 years ago before the explosion of the internet when it became much easier to keep in touch with home from a school a couple states away and every game wasn't available to watch either over the air or online, but its just not true anymore. If it was, our football program wouldn't have the talent deficiency and trouble in recruiting the 757 that it currently does.
What shocks me are all these Hokies/TKPers that claim to have WVU "friends".

This ^^ If you showed me some sort of chart that proved a large percentage of High School kids decided to play close to home (within a couple of hours), I'd buy the geography thing. I think it is part of the puzzle that needs to be put together by any coach in Blacksburg, but it isn't insurmountable.

Yeah, that last part is my interpretation of a new offensive attitude and philosophy and was meant to be more tongue in cheek or boastful rather than literal. But text doesn't convey tone, so what I was trying to communicate didn't come across.
UVA plays like one, so we got that going for us.
Our defense making stops. Memphis opposing offense slowing the game down the rest their defense? Not sure how those overtimes were counted either.
