Living around DC is something terrible when watching NCIS and trying to not be critical of their lack of geographical knowledge of the actual area compared to the on screen action. They leave the Navy Yard in DC to go to a dead body in Norfolk and its like it took an hour instead of a sleepover to get down there.

OK, so we went out here locally in Mathews, near Gwynn's Island. Floundering with Gulp. No I don't work for them. We got four flounder, all just undersized for keeping. I also got a 16" bluefish and a 10" striper. We lost several bites/fish on, some of which were almost certainly flounder, given the catch. I was satisfied to see that we were on the right track, caught the targeted species, although not dinner fare. Rain and unsettled weather held us to four hours of fishing. Not the most productive of days, but affirmation that the season has begun. Hope everyone gets out and gets after 'em!

Though the east is better overall, no one was ever going to compete with Cleveland. Toronto, Miami, Atlanta, Boston, Charlotte, Indiana are all interchangeable. Miami probably has the best chance to grab a game or two against Miami because of star power/Wade wanting to prove a message. No other east team is scary. Lack of star power.

Sure, there are a few formations on display. But they're all in the same series, or family. They are essentially the same formations with a few minor tweaks. The point, though, is that each formation can execute several different plays. So the point I was highlighting is that there aren't lots and lots of formations. There are lots and lots of plays from a single formation (or series of formations) which prevents the defense from keying on formations/personnel to take them to the football.

I tore my labrum (close to half of it all the way off the bone) this past fall and had surgery in December. Can vouch for how much it sucks but 'm already back to golf and non-contact sports.

I think the Hawks beat both the Raptors & Heat in a 7 game series - it's a moot point, but here's why:

While it's true the Hawks are hot & cold as an offensive team, they were the 3rd best defense in the NBA this year. While I'm not sure there's one guy you could point to as a lockdown defender (perhaps Millsap), they're full of smart help defenders. The Raptors & Heat have been poor offensively in the playoffs thus far, and I think the Hawks would have taken advantage of their offensive shortcomings.

But as you said, it doesn't really matter because Cleveland is head & shoulders above anyone else in the Eastern Conference.

Great Write-Up French.

I noticed in the clips above, the TE was covered up in multiple plays. Was this common in Fuente's scheme while at Memphis? Did the TE have much of a role besides block?

Follow up question: If the TE was not a primary pass-catcher, do you think Fuente will alter that here at VT, or move the athletic TEs to the outside/H-back positions?

There are actually a few formations used in the clips above. The one thing consistent in the formations was the "I-Gun" (i.e. the RB directly behind the H-back). There are clips above with 3 wide, 2 wide and a TE (TE open), 2 wide and a TE (TE covered).

I ran into JC Coleman over the weekend

;) jk

Great write up as always!

Not trying to be picky here, but... The one thing I'd like to see more of in the film reviews is Fuente's offense owning the BYU coaching staff (if there is more of that).

Thanks for the good work French!

Yep, saw that game and Pinkett, as I recall, scored all 32 points for his team (Park Sterling maybe). The kid was a blur. King was a bloody gnat, quick but not fast, and with great vision and hard to get a handle on.

Good news. Dude was the consummate Hokie and wish him the best.
