I think it could look doable if the number/pylons were on top of the shoulder not the side. You could do contrasting colors or a faded look like the basketball sweat marks and elongate the pylons.

how much money is that Ohio blog making off that t-shirt? - while he does have a "right to publicity" (i.e. the right to control the use of one's own likeness for profit), the amount of money he would win would be way less than the cost of litigation.

Practically speaking, he should order a cease and desist. I would imagine a threat of lawsuit would stop that Ohio blog, whether it's economically feasible or not.

With 46 seconds left and the Blues up 3-2, they panned the crowd and found a lady Blues fan literally weeping into a scarf. Playoff hockey is intense.

Couldn't agree more. This is a complete load of bull. They pinned everything on WBB. As if the situation couldn't get any more embarrassing, now other conferences are looking at the ACC and somehow even further questioning our academic standards with this news. Give me any hypothetical you like, including the NC, and I'd go for maintain and properly enforce academic standards. This is for two reasons, one obviously self interest in that I will forever be presenting a resume to potential employers with VT on there. The second is even more important, I'll skip my opinion of pay to play, and just say that if athletes' compensation is an education, they should be rewarded with it. Take some of the damn money you are spending on recruiting, and invest heavily in tutoring.

I understand that certain students can't get any education if they don't meet requirements, but at least give them every shot possible at learning until it reaches that point. This whole situation has been an embarrassment on the conference in whole. This is the way the world works, every program does it to some extent, they carry enough monetary value to the NCAA that we knew this would happen; whatever the excuse, it is BS. If compensation remains the education provided, at least do what you can to pay minimum wage. The pretty well supported stories about what was happening was far below that threshold, and this is from UNC, a school with an excellent educational system, at least for individuals other than those that have difficulty managing both academics and sports, or just academics that happen to play sports.

I think this depends on perspective. I don't think anyone is doing more modern design uniforms than UA by a long shot. I'm not looking to be cutting edge or traditional; just want what looks consistent and best for our team and fans. That said, it helps a lot to be one or the other. When uniforms become disjointed is often when attempting modern and then at the last minute say "damn, we don't have any legacy in here, let's throw it on top."

I... Don't think that is a possibility. With the emphasis on brand standardization, they aren't going to use a minor one like that as a major design element on a major Athletic team, one which gets the most publicity arguably of the entire school. Personally, I tried to incorporate the pylons with some work I was doing for our alumni chapter, and got smacked down faster than a Hoo trying to run up the middle on Settle.

That being said, I have heard that while this standardization and rebrand was done primarily by Whit (the standardization is what ixnayed my efforts) it has been told to me that Whit does whatever he wants with the Athletic Uniforms. More a do as I say not as I do...

Charlotte holds serve. Best of three.

First impression is like the moment when there is no escape except going into the fetal position and playing dead (ref LOLUVA QB's)

Don't mind being a Nike school. Just want unis that don't look like the summer interns worked on them. Think about the Bama game a few years ago. Could have been so much better. I hope our next refresh looks fresh and not recycled.

The drop off between us and Louisville is shocking to me.

And let's be real, Miami doesn't have that many fans show up to game days. Idk who they think they're kidding

There is also a thread that goes up for tickets and parking passes. In fact it is my favorite time of year, because then I know football is getting close.

This is fantastic. I think it would look strange on any number starting with a 1, but I'd love this on the uniform somewhere. Off the top of my head can't think of a program that incorporates something so important to their school on the FB uniform. I can envision broadcaster commentary in big games identifying the Pylons and speaking to their significance, that is the type of thing I love during dead air time for both VT and other programs' games.

I feel like the guy at 2:51 may be from our game in 2014. Could just be convincing myself but it kind of makes sense considering OSU doesn't lose many games and it looks like that guy is in a home crowd

Quick (and somewhat crude) Photoshop job here, my idea being that the shoulder numbers are framed by the Pylons that VT Athletics is using for its logo:

So in this design, the shoulder numbers sort of emerge from the Pylons, the team and the University built from those principles.

(Symmetric Pylons would be on either side of the number, I'm just not talented enough to superimpose the Pylons in some rippled form to match the uniform exactly.)

I wonder if I can tolerate the white uniform better because in the pictures here, the stripes are shown straight up and down over the top of the shoulder. On the maroon jersey, the shoulder stripes end up going over the edge, where the shoulder meets the arm (which is of course dependent on size of the player and the pads).

I also wonder if I would like the stripes on the maroon jersey better if they were orange on the outside and white on the inside.

Been trying to put my finger on exactly why I dont't feel great about the unis, and this hits it right on the head.

Also, unpopular opinion, but I have never been a fan of the tri-color helmets. For whatever insane reason, it makes them look really long and reminds me of the Metroid helmet. And now I want to play Metroid.

All I know is this: the team with the most points wins the game. The speed of scoring those points is merely a preference. I'm more excited for the rhythm of a Fuente offense than I am the speed. I do agree with a statement he made though; it's easier to say whoa than go. I felt like that was one of Lefty's weaknesses.

I have been trying to think of a way to incorporate the war memorial pillars into a uniform design. I initially thought they could be used as shoulder stripes but that might not be apparent enough. I do think it could be used in some way down the sides of the Jersey though. Anybody more creative than me have any ideas?

So why is anyone following the rules? Clearly there are little to no repercussions, UNC just played for the NCAA title. The problem is that the NCAA has not figured out how to punish a school without harming the current athletes who may not have been involved in the infractions. I say force a school to maintain funding to small sports while fining and taking away future scholarships in the sports breaking the rules.
