I'm wondering how a certain TKPer-with-ties-to-the program feels about this..
One of the best ST coaches in the country, but TG should have been paid closer to Shebiest
I hope they don't hire another Memphis dude. They need a Professional recruiter. Don't care what position he coaches....get someone who can sell a program.
I just hope Fuente figures out that offense quickly. Cuz our defense isn't going to cover his offense consistently like it did for about a decade in the early 2000s
And they are paying a special teams coach 100k more? Who the hell did he bring in this cycle?
Happy for TG but we should have paid him more.
Oh I know. Plenty of players would make terrible coaches. But he stated it as somewhat of an absolute.
Well if this news isn't a royal kick in the ass. I have a feeling that Tech's football program is headed for a real dive.
One of the best defensive back coaches in the country gets his pay cut by an upstart head coach who's claim to fame is winning games at Memphis. Real smart. Why not fire him outright. As for this years recruiting I expected a hit but I don't see it as a class to build a winning team on. I hope I'm wrong. I've been a Tech fan for over 50 years and this day is as bad as they get. Well not as bad as any day the Hokies lose to UVA.
I think you missed the point. I'm making fun of the idea that pills are supposed to make you better and relating that to losing TG not making us better. Where the idiom comes from is irrelevant for my purposes. I was trying to throw a touch of humor into a boiling pot of bad emotions. Attempt failed, I guess.
Well, those of you dissatisfied with faceguarding probably feel alright. The rest of us though, ugh.
Definitely time for them to step up, I really want them to be focused in these last few duels heading into the tourneys.
Agree with and cosign on everything youve said. Have to build a basic knowledge base before we jump into any more. Also looking for technique common to the hokies. I have the entire NCAA film library and i'm not sure i saw 1 double leg, which is why it wasnt included. They happen, but far less frequently than HiCs.
As for the position and specialization, have to get fans watching first before i break any of that down, but its coming. Next post will probably be moves for NF points (tilts, bars, turks, bow and arrow etc). Then we might focus on one or two wrestlers and cover what makes them great (probably dance and walz before NCAAs. Maybe epp too)
I how coach Scott fits in well and can help fill some of the void left by Torian during all of those game planning sessions.
Not opposed to it. I like people with chips on their shoulders and something to prove.
Foster is a nationally known name and I am sure that he and Fuente were told. Hopefully whit is willing to open the wallet and get someone good
yeah as bad as Florida has been lately I thought this was an interesting move for them because their secondary has been exceptionally good. Weird.
Great second entry here to mention some of the traditional take downs. For the most part position is the key, once you get out of position, ie leg exposed or too high when riding it makes it easier for the other wrestler to take advantage of. Also a lot of what goes on depends on the match up, some guys are really great on their feet with attacking, some are better at defense and counter shooting. Some are great in scrambles or improvising on the move when being attacked or in a difficult situation. Some are fantastic on top, usually guys who put legs in fall into this category. Usually this plays out in the bigger match ups where everyone is really good. Can't wait for more in the series.
This. Besides being pissed the timing just felt wrong. Kept it hush hush until signing day was over?
Who in the hell do we hire?
It would be quite strong. And I'm not a fan of retreads but he has a decent track record.

that's what worries me about the move...it's speculation at this point and I could be totally and completely wrong (hope I am) but it makes me wonder if there is some bad blood among the new coaches and old coaches. Fuente (and all the new coaches) have said all the right things in interviews but we don't know how the coaches work together behind closed doors. Beamer built a solid foundation for Fuente to build upon, but if that foundation just got a crack in it Fuente will have a tough time building a quality program.

I guess he figured there were no more Fullers to coach so he strolled out. Can any of the new guys transfer out? Talking about Ladler in particular.
Oops... Thank you for the pro tip, though!
Exactly. Guys like Gray are exceptions. How many players have played for VT and how many have coached successfully ANYWHERE? Spoiler alert: not many.
The irony would be strong.

Well this finishes up a really suckfest of a day. Paycuts were probably the reason for this. Placing this one straight on Fuente or Whit, whoever has final say on assistant contracts. Shouldn't make a great coach take a pay cut and it looks like it bit us in the ass.
