I don't think Fuente sets salaries, I'm sure he lobbied for his guys but ultimately the salary decisions (I would assume) are up to Whit.

If this is simply a matter of pay, the blame is in Whit's hands.

Since baseball is being taken care of, I want to see the soccer complex redone. Bleachers are only acceptable for high school teams. Move the soccer field to the old band practice field and give it professional stands. This will clear room for more football practice fields. Also, those fields are surrounded by chain-link fence. Get some Hokie stone fencing. It wouldn't cost a ton and would greatly improve the appearance outside Lane

Cutting TGs pay was a godawful mistake. He was elite at what he did. DBU is what has anchored the defense for so many years.

Fuente deserves the early blame. TG should have been making $300k.

I wish I could say this surprised me. But really all that surprises me is that it didn't happen years ago.

That pay cut was a slap in the face.

"Hey, yeah, so I know the offense has been sucking hind-end for the past decade, and in no small part the position you coach has been one of the reasons the bowl streak is alive, but I'm going to need you to go ahead and move your cubicle to the basement, mmkay?"

I think it is simple, he was underpaid before as one of the best DB coaches in the country, he took a pay cut and Frank left. I'm sure he will earn significantly more at Florida

So a loaded answer:

In the immediate future, the goal is a trophy. The top 4 teams in wrestling take home trophies and this team probably has a ceiling of 4th. Additionally, we need an individual national champ. There are at least 3 guys on this roster who could reach the national final this year. Individual championships draw the best recruits, which we need to compete.

Long term, the established powers have a strong grip on the top spots. I was encouraging to see the buckeyes break through as they are not true blue bloods in the sport. They did however have one of the historically great wrestlers in steiber, and a massive funding and RTC advantage. If tech commits to wrestling, We will have a shot in the next 10 years, with perennial top 5 finishes.

Additionally, i think we have at least 1 if not 2 recruits in the pipeline who are national championship contenders. To avoid extra pressure i wont mention them by name, but we are poised to take a big step forward in the next 4 years.

If I'm not mistaken, Galen Scott is from Florida so I don't think it is all on Wiles. Definitely not trying to discredit how much losing TG sucks. Who knows? Maybe he saw Stinespring going to FCS gig after 28 years of work in one place and Bud getting passed up for HC jobs and wanted to make sure he had a rounded enough background to keep him moving up on the coaching ladder. Best of luck Torian except when it comes to recruiting against Tech.
