five guys is such a rip off. Every time I go in there, I end up spending more than I planned and leaving unsatisfied. If mike's had some gluten free option, I'd go there over 5 guys every time.

Agreed, and by promoting him to OC instead of doing a nationwide search for a top OC really hurt our chances of growing into a top tier national brand. He seemed to be a good TE coach though and I wish nothing but the best for him at JMU (unless they are playing against us).
I saw him in my work today and he's already sporting a JMU jacket. Said they have him out recruiting and he mistakenly told a kid that "We want you really bad at Virginia Tech," lol. Wasn't sold on taking the job until he stepped foot on campus and felt back at home.
It's most frustrating for owner's and employees where prices are already low to accomodate students and a half pound fresh burger with topping is seen as too expensive at 5 bucks. Didn't help in this specific circumstance that VT was more than happy to allow a Five Guys to set up in town.
Probably the only jersey my wife will let me put my girls in cause they are girly in the best way possible and for a great cause. Take my money

it's just a shame that local business struggle...I wish there was something that could be done about it but I guess in the end it's a dog-eats-dog world

So I started a really sarcastic reply then realized how terrible it sounded. Nick doesn't have time. He works full time M-Sat and sends his kids off to school. He's the grill master, owner, and business manager. VT has contracts with Sodexo (I think) relating to food and the meal plans won't work for anyone but them. They did make a side balance (I think called Hokie Dollars) that people can use downtown but most students use that money for laundry. It's squeezing out a lot of restaurants that aren't bars. Perfect example is Castle's Irish Kettle and Pub. Had a great spot and was set up wonderfully, it failed because it was a sitdown deal. Reopened as something Irish. Failed again. It then took Joe from Joe's tobacco to make it successful as the Taphouse. It is beyond difficult to keep off campus dining locations open without significant community support.

Unless VT starts giving a portion of the base amount per meal plan that they charge each student over to the business, it is not beneficial to do this. It would either cut into the profits of the restaurant or result in a higher cost for campus meal plans. The best they can do, and what many already do, is to accept Hokie Passports as a form of payment, but the account is just a debit account and not Dining Dollars.

Ga. Southern should be better than they were in 2015 with most of the offense returning. They just barely lost to GT in Atl in 2014 so keep an eye on that one.
I wonder if it's possible for businesses in Blacksburg to work out a deal with VT where they can accept meal plans? That might be something to help the food industry downtown a bit. I'm not sure of the mechanics behind that, or if it's even feasible but maybe Nick could spearhead a campaign like that...just a thought
Yeah haven't kept up much with changes to WV high school sports since leaving the state after graduation. My parents moved back to NOVA after my dad's retirement from the Army so the reasons for going back were limited after awhile. Surprised to hear that anything could impact the athletic talent level that came out of the Dupont area, even if they combined with another school. Makes me think they must have lost some of the coaching experience. I think when Randy was there, the football coach at Dupont had been there since the Ice Age. I know my old high school coach is still coaching at University High, so he has to be getting close to 30 years as the UHS head coach.

Just a guess, but I'm sure there were other visits that whole crew made in the Jacksonville area. Some of which were probably offensive players, namely a WR that goes to the same high school as Bailey and is currently committed to Florida.

I have no idea how that place is still open. The location is awful: no foot traffic to speak of, you have to make a U-turn or circle a hotel parking lot just to get there from one direction, it's within a block of both a Popeye's and a KFC (not saying they compare in quality, but it does rather crowd the fried chicken market). Even a Krispey Kreme couldn't survive in that location, but Cane's has. Mind blowing.
