You could definitely tell that Clemson has had some success recruiting.
I thought the same thing about Clemson's "break, don't bend" defense. It did remind me of what VT's defense has often looked like against top teams.
I have not decided on going to the game, but I am coming to town and roaming the RV campgrounds.

We'll see if Fuente can ratchet up the recruiting, but VT as a football program has a lot of things going for it.
All I could think while watching the game was "man, this could be us..." or "was this what it felt like to be a fan in 1999?" They have the offense I've always wanted, and even their defense looked like ours (very aggressive, lots of negative plays, but a couple big broken plays).
They may claim 6, but the NCAA only recognizes three, and two of those were shared (1965 with Alabama and 1966 with Notre Dame). The only outright championship the NCAA recognizes was in 1952.

I didn't mess up the premise. I just pointed out that I didn't believe that Oregon State and Indiana are comparable to VT in terms of branding. I think the existence of a brand is, in fact, the awareness of it. If you're going to produce an example, it should be a comparable one.
And by the way, my comment was that VT is a national brand. I didn't say it was a stronger brand than Georgia. Who'd have thought that I'd have to defend the premise that "VT is a national brand" in THIS forum?
Part of your argument that "VT isn't a national brand" is that the new coaching staff came from Memphis? I don't see what that proves or disproves, but Fuente was one of the most highly-acclaimed "up and comers" in this year's coaching search, and obviously he believes in the VT brand (and potential).
A good bit of your argument is "SEC vs ACC" strength in football, but I'd argue that they're both national brands, even if one has a better reputation in football. One of those is better in basketball, and it's not the SEC.

What would we think if we hired that unnamed coach? Be pretty pleased I bet.
If you are at the tail end of I26, off exit 10 is Phil's Dream Pit. They do pretty good ribs, although I prefer their wet ribs over their dry rub which I'm not a fan of. Baked beans are some of the best I've ever had.
But their specialty is something called Pork Wings. These are amazing. Just try to get there early in the day before they sell out.
The very best BBQ comes off my Pit Barrel Cooker though. 300 bucks, and worth every penny.
I mean, you can disagree I guess, but it isn't really a debatable matter. Looking at the teams that have Natties in the last 20 years, almost all have had top 10 or better recruiting classes. Obviously good coaching is important as was seen in the game last night, but top programs many times have a good coach and good recruiting.
I hope Fuente will bring all that to VT, but obviously it is too early to know if he will be a success here.
I think offensively we are OK. Ford is great. But besides Cam we have no depth. You need that to win. I like Travon as well and think he could be a RB on a championship team. OLine is where we need improvement to make all the other positions better. QB is big though, it can make or break a team, especially when they are deficient in talent else where. I we start a guy even half of what Watson is, we could be pretty good next.
Defense, well, I think we are far off from where we need to be considering the depth issues and lack of LBers.
Yep... not to mention the respect our students and alumni are earning in the job front. VT has become a very well respected Engineering school, especially on the East Coast. We're also known to have one of the top Architectural and Design schools in the country. And in one of the more exploding employment fronts, if you have a VT degree, you'll automatically get an interview for a computer sciences position in most places.
It also doesn't hurt that the VT student body and alumni base has absolutely embraced the orange and maroon color scheme since the 1999 season. Its so unique that it sticks out when people see it, even if they know nothing about sports.
In a related note, Alabama is considering replacing their fight song with the Star Wars Imperial March. Darth Saban approves.
If Trevon Hill is ready to go, even if it's just in a depth/passing situation capacity, everything I have heard leads me to believe he can be a playmaker on the edge.
This year at least those losses are more on the offense than the defense
When did you meet them? I'm just curious because I find it hard to believe there are currently people on the East Coast of the United States who have never heard of VT. The tragic events of 2007 made the news world-wide and I have to believe that unless US Citizens were living under a rock they had to have heard of VT at least in that capacity. If you met people in 2005 and they had never heard of VT then I could believe that more easily.

We will need to fix this trend to be successful in 2016. I also looked at the offensive YPG and we ranked between 96 and 103. Another trend that will need to be turned around.
Hypothetical: If Shane is coaching as an assistant at UGA and VT and UGA meet in the Natty, who will Frank be rooting for?
