The offense only had a chance at those numbers because the defense had big turnovers and stops
His seat appears to be hotter than I thought it was.
I 100% agree. Explanation of my thoughts are above. But, yes, I think Mullen is as good as hire as Herman, maybe better. It's just, on its face, Herman is the hottest up-and-coming, grass-is-greener coach right now and Mullen is not even in discussion. Thus, on its face, Mullen is the older, already tried version of Herman.
I think I recall somebody said he got another fully guaranteed contract extension after last years Orange Bowl. So probably he is around for a while unless they find a booster or twenty who can afford the buyout.
I'm going to leave a picture of Mrs. Mullen right here:

I called this a few weeks ago (#nbd). I felt like Dan Mullen was the Buzz Williams hire and I loved Mrs. Mullen enough to feel like their family would be the perfect fit in the Blacksburg community. She's awesome: Link Here
So.... who the hell starts in his place?
He hit a ref
I'm surprised it wasn't a full game suspension. You don't hit the ref, period.
Expanding on this as I did more digging. I looked at number of 4*/5* kids in each state over 2011 through 2015 and how many ended up at each school.
Mississippi - 15 of total 37 (40.5%)
Virginia Tech - 10 of total 45 (22.2%).
If Mullen can hold the same percentage here we would be getting another 8 4*/5* kids over that timeframe
There is a common bond between the "grass is greener" genotype and message board posting. Bud Foster represents the past and does not fit the delusion of the grass is greener narrative.
why?
D kept us in that game...can't blame them that it took 3/4 of the game before the offense woke up.
Yes
meh. I think it's a bit much. a 1Q suspension, or even no suspension would've been fine in my opinion. Clearly unintentional, didn't get ejected, very contrite about it... I understand sending a message about awareness and taking setbacks in stride, but 1/2 a game is a bit much.
If we hire Dan Mullen I'm changing teams
GOD, WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also, thanks for sharing.
Holy Crap! Can you imagine if NBC put the amount of production quality into college football games that they put into Sunday Night Football? I don't know if they have the resources, but that would be fantastic.
As for the USCw rivalry, ND could play the Trojans during the last week of the season like UF-FSU, GT-UGA, and Clemson-USCe.
Having said that, ND will never join a conference unless they absolutely have to. It is hard to imagine them giving up that autonomy and revenue. But if they ever do, the ACC is in prime position to bring them fully onboard.
Well if the Defense had played in the fourth quarter, the 24 points/400 yards the offense produced would have been enough to win.
Dan Mullen in the Coastal
fox in the hen house
The thoughts are mutually exclusive.
1) Relation to Tom Herman: Mullen was Meyer's OC at Florida, thus the Tom Herman before Tom Herman. It's just that Tom Herman's name is hotter in 2015 than Mullen's name in 2008. Herman was also immediately successful at Houston. It's just ironic that his name is popping up after the lust of VT fans at Herman.
2) This a Buzz Williams hire. Take a coach that's done exceedingly well at a major football school, but not in the best situation going forward. Miss St. will almost always be viewed as the "lower-tier" team of SEC west. Surpassing Ole Miss, LSU, Alabama, Auburn, and Texas A&M seems near impossible. He may have reached plateau at Miss St. VT provides a platform to reach higher levels. But on it's face, VT poaching him Miss. St. seems like an amazing hire for VT, yet somewhat a head scratcher. Why leave $4M and a chance to coach in the SEC?
ooof...that just made me sick :(
I'll take one of those with a side of Bud Foster.
In-state recruiting is 1) not particularly important (opinion) and 2) VT has been comparable to or better than many other similar power 5 institutions' in-state recruiting (fact). What matters is overall recruiting...and the mantra about in-state recruiting is far from unique to VT.
Take off the O&M glasses and ask a few sober people (who follow closely college football, but don't give a rat's ass about VT) for their opinion on VT football. For the most part, they are amazed at what Beamer has done on the field and in recruiting in a relatively short period of time and with relatively modest resources and are somewhat puzzled at how elements of the fanbase have been trying to push him out for several years.
Proven winning coach in the toughest division in football. Young and has the offense we want. Great person. I would call it more than meh. That is just me though.

League of Legends gif. Nice.
