While I agree with most of the disdain for paper airplanes, I would like to encourage some perspective.

The athletic department has made SIGNIFICANT strides in the past year.

  • Our coaches (yes - I know it's not actually them but it doesn't matter) and athletic department are more active on instagram, twitter, and facebook then ever before.
  • The athletic department is routinely organizing events for new students and young kids in order to create an emotional bond with the program.
  • There are steps being taken to strengthen our brand and make it more uniform
  • There is FINALLY a Student Hokie Club
  • The use of music at the OSU game was perfect IMO - in the past we seem to have struggled with when to let the band play and when to blast music - I think it was spot on
  • We have a brand new, top of the line, practice facility!
  • We have a basketball coach!

I could go on and on. Sure, at the OSU game we had some trouble with the Screen and the Skipper going off (much higher priority issues than the paper airplanes btw), but overall I'm extremely happy with everything Whit has done. Have you seen how Texas's (now fired) AD was alienating their fans? And you want to talk about Paper Airplanes? Really?

100% agree.. which is why I loved the Pom Pom idea.. If we could expand that for the whole stadium it would solve lots of problems. I didn't see many airplanes vs OSU and I definitely didn't see any pom pom's being thrown.

If you want to waive it and shake it you can, if not you can take it home and decorate with it ect ect..

This was taken with around 8 mins to go before kickoff, right before the cheerleaders start up the LETS GO..... HOKIES

The people coming out for Ohio St are the captains, who come out early for both sides.

Messes with the national anthem? You take a song of pride in your country, and then you emphasize a word to show pride in your team (of which many teams are symbols of people's home).

We're a country that prides ourselves on being a melting pot, with different cultures, traditions and own ways of doing things. And just like we watch singer after singer put their personal touch on the tune of the national anthem (with no one picketing), I don't really see anything OFFENSIVE about people putting their personal touch on it as well. Embrace it!

Ahhh, old Susie performing my famous patented "Bend, and Snap" maneuver. All my dogs must pass this test before getting fed/vetted/etc. for life. If I can ever get one I can train to dive for flounder, I'll be a happy camper.

Bravo, Mr. Boster, standing O at the Fish Shack. And in celebration of my 65th, drinks are on the house.

This is awesome.
A few observations:
1. VT team not on field yet (pre-Enter Sandman)
2. OSU team entering field (Are the persons responsible OSU fans?)
3. Game clock at 8:13 of the 1st Qtr. No score....yet.
4. I am much too calm for this to be almost the middle of the 1st Qtr based on what was happening at that time.
5. I'm gonna have some fun with this with my friends that attended. hehehe

Its still a cool technology application. Well done.

If the airline industry can successfully and effectively adopt an electronic or mobile ticketing system, I don't see why we can't do the same for football.

It's not as easy/affordable as you make it sound, IMO delta is the only airline who has done it right, but overall, I agree. Sounds like a great capstone project for some CS majors.

I get what you are saying but Stroman played but a few snaps in 1 or 2 games on offense? Tremaine played 1 play on offense and is likely not seeing the field on defense unless it is a throttling.

I implied a guy getting decent playing time on both sides of the ball in a semi significant role. Miles Jack being the closest comparison.
