That was fun up until it wasn't fun any longer.
In the span of about 20 minutes I went from "Lawson should redshirt this year" to "Free Dwayne Lawson".
As somebody else pointed out we have a decent shot at winning the next 4-5 games with Brewer out if Motley and Durkin are just okay. Then Brewer will be back.

We all know that man. I think you've reminded us of that enough. Every great DB gets burned. He held Michael Thomas to two catches for 46 yards, including the TD pass off a great route by Thomas. Good win, and good luck on the rest of yall's season.
I thought it was crappy ACC last year, and crappy big 10 this year? Oh well, either way the crew needs glasses. They had to overturn the non-called fumble, because the fans might have lynched them by storming the field otherwise.
I think they worried about seeing more speed option and tried to slow play it, using the quicker edge guys to take away the pitch man. And it worked a bunch, except when the mike (a common theme) or free hitter wasn't there to take QB.
It hurt them badly on the QB Counter Trey. They stopped Barrett last season by arriving before the blocking developed. Those edge guys were sitting back reading this time.
All in all, I thought the Hokies were much less aggressive up front than last season. Part of that could have just been the Ohio State playing much better and limiting penetration. But, Dadi being out wide on the edge I think would have been far more dynamic than RVD sitting back and slow playing read options. Hindsight is 20/20, and I need to see the film, but I would have preferred to either see a 4-4 or see the Bear with the original personnel grouping.

We need to throw whatever our offensive game plan was out the window. We won't have a consistent passer with Brewer out. From here on out, if we can't run the ball very effectively, we are in for a long season. I'm saying we need to go 3-TE sets power running football, or an option spread attack with Durkin, Motley, or Lawson as a running threat. I'd prefer to redshirt Lawson though, as burning his redshirt now will probably backfire.

I think the major issue is that Motley wasn't going through progressions and then got really jumpy in the pocket. There was still solid protection in many cases, he wasn't comfortable in the pocket at all. He also missed a few throws that didn't help his confidence any.
Hate for this to be your impression of Ohio State fans. This was so dumb and misguided. And did I mention dumb? We've got an unfortunate amount of unfortunate people in our fan base. Hope the kid has a speedy recovery.
How was it in the stands? Even with the loss I'm jealous I couldn't be there. Seemed electric.
Sadly it was the crappy ACC officials we're use to dealing with.
I say this not to slight anyone in maroon and orange, but I think a team's confidence goes way down when the backup to their leader is a significant downgrade (for whatever reason that may be).

Yeah, I agree. I gotta rewatch it (woof) but it didn't seem to me we were suddenly in an uncharted territory of the playbook after Motley came in. Obviously some higher-percentage passes to start off, but it seemed like by the second or third drive, we were running our base offense.
Granted, I don't have your eye.
Now you know that Urban Meyer just dodged a bullet. But the better team won.
the Ohio State fans that have been here participating have been just fine. Folks coming here to troll- that sucks but it comes with losing a game. If any of us ever went on Sabre and the like to taunt after a win, then this is karma biting us in the tookus.
From the stands, it looked like Bud subbed in a lot of the second string in the fourth.

People say a lot worse things than #6.
My quick thoughts.
1. Brewer going out hurt us badly.
2. The phantom PI call gave aOSU a free set of downs at the 10 was pretty much the straw that broke the defenses back. They would have gotten three from the FG, but instead got a TD gift wrapped from the Ref's.
3. The big ten officials did us no favors, from the stands it looked like there were a lot of questionable calls for aOSU and a lot of missed holds by their OL.
4. Kendall got burned a couple of times.
5. Bucky was a complete non-factor with at least one big drop.
6. Malleck is going to have a special senior year.
7. Motley and Durkin are both going to get a lot of play time against Furman. Motley didn't look comfortable running the offense for most of the third quarter.
I think one thing that also gets overlooked in reference to the backup QB is knowing the playbook and being confident enough to check out of a certain play and set protections. Motley was baptized by fire tonight for sure. Not saying he will be the answer going forward but those are things that improve with more experience in the system. Tough loss tonight on more than one front. Hang in there Hokies!
