Well I realize we are all in hyper-speculation mode, I have to imagine that the majority of the objective fines are loosely governed. Like I'm guessing a dorm would have to be really dirty to get a fine. And whoever judges these things would probably give them a warning or heads-up.

All of those things may be true, but I guarantee this will be used against us. The coaches may lie and spin it but the fact that VT is the one that got 'caught' and is in the news does not bode well.

People are making this out to be a big deal.Maybe because it is.
More I think about it, the bigger a deal I think it is. Not from an NCAA/Football standpoint, but from an ethical standpoint.

Just because we still get decent classes doesn't mean it has no effect on recruiting. We have been in lots of Top 5's before for high profile kids who go elsewhere, and I'm sure this kind of thing plays a part in it, especially if they are recruiting against programs that don't do this.

If you are an athlete and are being recruited the athletic handbook is the 1st thing you get/receive.. It has everything covered in there and if you have questions you can ask.. it has all the fines, -> approved by the NCAA and rules you must follow if you want to represent the University or College. If you can't meet them then you probably shouldn't be playing athletics in college because they're pretty easy to follow and are very similar school to school

I kinda interpreted this to be a "I don't want to tip my hand" type ploy by Ryan. He probably already know who starts, but wants to make whoever their first opponent is (Indy, I think?) plan for both. Similarly, he doesn't want to play both and risk muddying the waters about who should be starting any further. He knows, the team likely knows, and they are playing the cards close to the vest. My $.02, anyway.
yeah willing to say 90% of NBA players couldn't make that in 100 tries. shoot in the allstar weekend challenge thing they shoot from midcourt and the stars and ex stars struggle with that. and in the regular season the free throw percentages are horrific for about 1/2 the players. amazing shot! wonder how many times he has mad it seeing how hes GT hes probably attempted it in games before.
Maybe it brings the issue to light, and recruits will ask what other schools use as punishment.
Honestly, I don't know the answer, but maybe we aren't out of line. Maybe we are. (But I don't see them as being oppressive or overly burdening to a student. Do the right thing and nothing happens!!!!!)

Maybe it is a good thing that this was revealed now instead of way into the season or a couple of seasons down the road.
Prisco is a douchebag. He's the guy that takes hours of time to break down film to find one players mistake based on a decision made within a split second.

I agree, but if you want monetary consequences for negative actions, then you need to also offer monetary rewards for positive actions. The NCAA has made it clear that the latter is not allowed.
I'm all for discipline, but you don't need to withhold players' money. Make them do community service, make them write lines on a chalk board, find something. It is 100% unfair for a body that preaches amateurism to charge its employees for mistakes.
Its not replacing Brown's one catch, its that OSU has to replace everyone but Michael Thomas's catches. To think that the guys who were slated to be options 6,7, and 8 at WR will have no trouble against possibly the top CB tandem in the country is just nave.

Just because Manuel is starting doesn't hurt Tyrod's chances. It's common knowledge that it is likely going to come down to Cassel and Tyrod, this just seems like a "last chance" kind of deal for Manuel to me.
On a side note, Pete Prisco was bashing Tyrod the other day. If you don't know who Pete Prisco is, he's basically the Mark May of the NFL, always wrong. So Tyrod has that going for him.

The uniform one is the only fine I see as 100% justified. Nike pays us big money to wear their clothes. If you want to keep getting big money, you should probably do what Nike wants.
I still think Tyrod starts game one. As the article states, they just want to make sure everyone gets a fair shot. With their O-line, Tyrod's ability to make plays, and the athleticism around him, I find it hard to believe he isn't their best option. I feel like it's the Glennon vs. Tyrod situation again, except subbing in Cassel instead. I hope the Bills don't have to watch Cassel get sacked all season as Sammy Watkins is flying down the field wide open.
key phrase "programs that don't do this." You would be shocked at how many programs do this/have a fine policy in place.
kid's don't come to VT for many reasons.. a fining policy is not one of them and if so then I would be worried about that kid.
