I think I said that was Facyson on the 35-yard catch by Ford and I'm pretty sure on that. Also, I believe Slye took all the fg attempts early before Santamaria came in after. I thought Slye was either 2-4 or 3-5 with most of them being pretty long attempts. I could be wrong though.

I agree with everything else though. Thanks for the response

"Let me clarify that," he said. "I think somebody said Shane and Bud would be the most logical, and then I talked about them. But on my staff, I think I've got a lot of guys that are capable of being head coaches. Several of them. And I'm not going to have any part in determining that. That's for the administration here at Virginia Tech. I'm just trying like heck to not make them make a decision any time soon."

Especially like the last line. That's what's really important at this point in time.

South Main Kroger is still significantly better than UCB. And my friends and I definitely use the nomenclature, with the only change being that the renovation to UCB Kroger changed it from "Ghetto Kroger" to "Kroghetto Fabulous".

A nole told me after that that we make too much of preseason football. I replied it's about enjoying the sport most of all; and I particularly enjoyed seeing a Hokie make a big play against FSU's first ever first overall draft pick.

I am really curious as to who was playing with the #2 D at defensive end with Mihota and Ekanem playing with the 1's and Dadi/Dooley out. Thoughts?

It is killing me that I wasn't there.

Hopefully with Hansen back in the mix things get shored up a bit. If our 1's on offense can hold their own against our 1's on defense, I feel pretty good. That's probably the best d-line coupled with backer blitzing that we will see all year. Stay away injuries, stay away.

Has Kyle Chung been healthy since he has been here? I am guessing the coaches have to be looking at Smith as the back up center now. Need a healthy Gallo.

Nice write up, Shabutie, glad you finally made it over here.

A couple of my own observations:
Lawson still needs to work on his mechanics some, especially under pressure. His ball handling was hit or miss- one play he would hesitate on the read option, then the next play it would be picture perfect and probably would've resulted in a TD.

A couple of the field goal misses you mentioned were actually Santamaria. It looked like Slye was doing all the kicking toward the North end zone (he was 2-3 by my count- missed a 51-yarder) while Santamaria was doing all the kicking toward the SEZ. Also, from what I recall it was Stroman in coverage on Ford's 35-yarder. They pulled Kendall off the field to give Stroman a look there from what I saw.

Settle probably needs to redshirt. He wasn't getting any pass rush even at the beginning of the scrimmage and allowed himself to be pushed out of the hole too easily at times. He's clearly #6 or so at DT.

I was pleasantly surprised with the pass protection from the #1 o-line, although I agree with your assessment that it'll still be a weakness. Most of the freshmen looked like freshmen- flashes but inconsistent. Adonis Alexander, Houshun Gaines, and Deshawn McClease were pleasant surprises (though Gaines and McClease only saw a little bit of action against the 3s) and Adonis will almost certainly see the field this year.

I think most of what we saw was already known. The running backs, Ford, Bucky, Sam Rogers, and Malleck will be monsters. So will the d-line and Deon Clarke. The #2 o-line will be an issue. Notably, with Kyle Chung out hurt, the #2 center became a rotating effort to find someone who could snap the ball, as there were numerous bad snaps. The backup linebackers got caught up in the flow on bootlegs, play action, and in the read option game, but were otherwise solid. We still don't have a #3 WR- I think it could be CJ Carroll in an emergency or Deon Newsome if he get on the JUGS machine and stops being a body catcher.

Edit: As a side note, Lawson is every bit of 6'6" and Facyson looks taller and faster than I remembered. He's probably 6'3" in all actuality.

Your thoughts about us struggling in pass protection is concerning. I hope we get better cause I'm sure people don't want to see more INTs this year due to a hurried attempt to get rid of the ball and brewer getting blasted more. I mean I know he's tough but if we can keep him from getting injured that would obviously be the best situation. Other than that comment everything sounds good. Settle's pick was hilarious. That kid is huge.

Eh, they used Voytik like that prior to our game. I distinctly remember watching them have success against UVA with it and thinking that they would definitely run it against us given our struggles with Marquise Williams running the same stuff. We just didn't stop it.
