Agree with the agreement to disagree...
I think we did back off a bit, but that doesn't mean we played bad. To put it in football terms, I think we went from a man to man defensive scheme to an over the top zone defense where we allowed them a little bit, but smothered them once they reached a certain point. I think part of that reason is because of the pace we carried throughout that first half.

If this were to happen I would want the SEC to absorb the majority of the Big12 (maybe texas, oklahoma, baylor and one or 2 others) and then the ACC absorb maybe 2 sec schools (Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, or South Carolina). I would like to keep conferences as local as possible. By adding some of these SEC schools, you add a few more conference games to the season since Louisville, GT and Clemson all have annual in-state rivalries with these opponents. Tennessee would be a local addition if the ACC wants another state television market and would make for a good rivalry with VT.

I say we find this Nathan Summers before the game and tie him up and kidnap him and ship him to a place that doesn't care for barbeque, like say . . . Vermont.
Messi is an exception more than the norm, and the dude is by far the best player in the world, no doubt. The U.S. players used to play through a lot of contact, but there is little to gain for it. Getting the call is more advantageous, that's the crappy part of the rules. Until FIFA starts carding floppers (for real) and adds some risk for the reward get used to diving and the rolling around like they just stepped on a landmine.

After that, I'd probably say Kansas. Bolsters the basketball side of the conference and adds a pretty decent academic institution with a large endowment. I can't see any Texas schools in the ACC due to location though.
Was Weaver a former ECU alum or something!? We play these guys more than many ACC opponents, and I hate to admit it but they're scrappy and sneaky good.

But I have seen enough of Messi to know that dude plays through some pretty tough tackles...both high and low.
Well that's just an unfair comparison. Messi is one of the elite because he's so skilled at making it through those challenges. I rarely have seen him flop. He's the kind of player that gets knocked down and gets right back up on the ball to continue his run. It's phenomenal to watch him play. But I'm not arguing that one is tougher than the other, just that the nature of the challenge is different which causes different results from contact.
You are right that play on the women's level is not nearly as crisp for any country compared to the men's level of play, but it is still superb. Compared to their competition though, the US is on another level in the women's field. France, Germany, and the US all play far better than any of their competition. That's why the two best games of the tournament are already behind us between France and Germany and then us and Germany.

If we had a 10 win season after what we have seen in the past couple of years, that would be a great improvement. It was in my opinion that I wasn't impressed by the streak because of the factors listed above and I always have high expectations for VT. After the first 3-4 years of the streak it didn't mean much to me because of the many flops on national tv and disappointments in big games (ACC Championships, BCS bowls, top tier bowls, etc.) that happened later on in the streak. I'm different from some Hokies fans I have seen/met where they will be content with a 10 win season even if it meant going 10-4/10-3 and missing/losing the ACC championship game in the process, then winning some lower tier bowl to get to that 10 win mark. Just my .02

I'm already dreading this game
I'll admit that I haven't watched enough soccer (either men's or women's) to really know who plays tougher. But I have seen enough of Messi to know that dude plays through some pretty tough tackles...both high and low. There are, no doubt, tough soccer players and floppers for both genders. To argue that one gender is generally tougher than the other is probably a fool's game.
I will start this next tirade by saying I fully support Women's soccer and I'm really glad that the rest of the world is getting into it and becoming much more competitive. However, watching this tournament compared with last year has made it clear to me that there is absolutely nothing about the Women's game that is as sharp as the Men's game. The fans, the commentary, the officiating, the coaching, the fields, the passes, the shots, the goal tending, the set pieces, the throw ins....just everything. Throw sexism out of the window and look at the two objectively. You just cannot argue that any facet of the Women's game is as sharp as the Men's game.
Just agree to disagree. Germany had some awful finishing touches, but dominated the early part of the 2nd half if not most of the 2nd half. Our play in the 2nd half was no where near the 1st half. We were not cutting off their passes and holding possession nearly as well. Can't blame rapinoe for looking gassed she was the energizer bunny in the 1st half.

I highly doubt Virginia Tech adopts the Navy-like look full time.

In a dream world where we get to ignore the geographical hardships and the influence of other conferences on where the schools end up then give me K-State, Kansas, Oklahoma State, and Oklahoma. Each school either has a strong basketball program, strong football program, or both. No one wants to deal with the gravity of Texas, Iowa State and Texas Tech arbitrarily don't strike me as great fits, and Baylor/TCU would probably be better SEC/PAC 12 fits. I wouldn't want WVU in hopes that no one picked them up and they landed in a lower conference.
Realistically we probably take WVU (Geography), Kansas (Would want to be in the best basketball conference), K-State (Following Kansas), and Texas Tech (Because reasons).
