He has the ability to take it the distance, but more than half of his yards were from one 76 yard TD. Take away that 1 play and he is under 3 YPC.
He can be a game breaker, but I don't think he is the type that will be getting us those tough 3 yards we need. I think he can be a huge contributor if we use him right - get him the ball in space.
I agree that there is a need to look at the entire staff and see if there is someone that can work with the shooters on improving shot selection and form. I do not anticipate that taking the form of Bobby Knight, who ESPN and others pay more than JJ just to be an occasional analyst on TV. I don't have a specific name to give you for them to pursue but in my mind someone like Steve Kerr, the long range specialist of old from the Bulls (and yes I know Steve Kerr is GM of the Phoenix Suns) but someone of his ilk would be who I would pursue.
You shouldn't pay too much attention to Hollywood father role depictions.
The reality of Taken was he wasn't too over-protective and he wasn't told the facts of the trip in the first place. Yes its typescript, but makes it the defacto reality within the scope of the movie.

I've encountered to idea of "prospect theory" a lot the last couple weeks and have been thinking about it.
Liam Neeson in my mind will always just be a terrible father. He abandons you in fallout. He's overprotective in ponyo and taken. He abandons his daughter in the batman franchise. The Jedi actually let anyone have kids. They just didn't want to tell Qui-Gon Jinn because they knew he'd fuck it up.
The administration saying "go get'em" and fans cheering doesn't change Xs and Os on the court. The game management was terrible this year from what I saw. We made the same mistakes the entire season and that to me comes down to coaching. Injuries definitely hurt us but the lack of change in what we did on the court is the telling sign. We switched to a 2-3 because we had no bodies to play man and it happened to work well for us. The offense struggled not only to score, but to create opportunities. How many times did I watch Wilson dribble around the top of the key and no body was moving around. We had no one willing to attack the basket. The coaches need to be addressing these things and they just weren't addressed all season. JJ is a great guy I am sure but he just isn't getting it done.
The perception and enigma around our program will not change until there is an overhaul.

At the end of the game yesterday against Miami, down by 2 and a chance to tie, we got the rebound off the missed FT but had the layup blocked. A head fake could have drawn a foul and a pass to an open guy could have led to an easy basket. That is not JJ's fault. He had un uphill battle to began his tenure and it only got more difficult.
The offensive capabilitie in NCAA 14 let the Hokies pretty much run the ball at-will. I'd like for us to be able to do that when practical
BM is flushed! Bonus is that he will also not be calling the playoff games.
Definitely, let's see if we can bring one of the greatest basketball coaches EVER out of retirement to a dumpster fire of a program he has zero association with to give us a little "shake up" as an assistant coach...I just, wow...
This is the same deal in cville with timecop, yet he was able to pull in some top recruits. I guess what im trying to say is it could light a fire under his butt and he could step up as a coach.

I never said anything about retaining or firing JJ. All I said was, don't use "what if we hire a good coach?!" as an argument against making a change. That line of logic makes no sense and was used year after year to justify keeping the offensive staff for football.

And even after that, people will gloat about it and pontificate about what might have been if he had been one at VT.
Yep, tired legs usually make the difference in the last two minutes of the game and there were no more tired legs in the ACC than the regular six or seven Hokies that played all season.
well, i hope you are right, with or without JJ. i just want to see improvement, and i know there are very real financial considerations to any coaching decision. in the end, i'm not for or against JJ, i'm for the hokies, and if JJ is back, then i will hope he proves a lot of people wrong and goes 9-9 in the ACC with a post season birth of some kind. my concern would be recruiting. how will recruits view coming to Tech with a coach so obviously on the hot seat?
if we move on, then i hope the new guy can keep the young players around and build on that, not start from scratch.

As if we didn't hear enough about this all year, during our bowl game, our whole team was walk ons.. and all that extra BS.
Fuller Hoepener. He will have an outstanding senior season. Not a Full Fuller but still a Fuller.
