I kinda like where we are right now. Teams are going to have to bring their best against us. We're tournament killers. If we beat you, you are not going to the NCAA tournament. It looks that bad on your season resume.
Broadcasting would be an easy sell. We may not have that major, but if the kid is good enough to get to the NFL, and has a good career, he can make it in about whatever he wants to.
That is GT, they can do that...
I mean, some people change majors 2 or 3 times after they're already in college. I think we can forgive a high school kid for changing his prospective major.
So essentially, we need to get Hoda into Blacksburg for a recruiting event and talk to Barnett.
Originally the Hand wanted to do engineering, then he said he wanted to go into sports marketing (I think that's what he said it was, but don't quote me). Turns out we don't have that major so he cut us off his list. I don't know how you decide to change majors that drastically, but these are kids we are talking about.
We'll get smacked by UVa, but thats alright. They're a good team and we're on the Rush Hour Express to the ACC basement this year.
All things being equal, the fact that we swept Miami in football and men's basketball this year brings me joy.

1. Gray - And I'll say why he's better than Bud. Without an elite secondary, Bud's defense would be beat in this modern pass-happy spread football. I seriously doubt Bud would still be successful post 2007ish without Gray. He can recruit to boot, which Foster clearly struggles at.
2. Foster - Mastermind of the defense. However, his DBs are asked to play on an island. I still question how good he would be without Gray...
3. Wiles - D-line is always beast, regardless of the lack of NFL size and talent.
4. Everybody else - They all have their strengths and weaknesses, but nobody else is currently putting a top-10 product on the field.
Wouldn't Atkins have graduated last year if he had stayed at Tech though? Not saying we couldn't have used him, especially when Eddie disappears for a few games every year.

ALSO the storm coming Friday, I wouldn't think much of it...however it is the beginning indicator of spring which has a lot of forecasters FLIPPING OUT. so good news bad news...

Bad news - this storm could bring a little ice...hope your driveway is already clear because it could freeze back over, the storm has next to no CAPE so all of this hype about a big storm....meh....all hype, we might get some thunder and lightning though!!!! god I miss that stuff
According to the silly rankings that come out, yes. As a VT engineer myself, I don't think we're any less capable than an engineer from GT (and some of their engineers love to let it go to their heads).
I'm not sure this is just an arms race issue. I am not arguing to have fields for recruits but I am also not going to say that recruits are not impressed with the arms race.
I do think there are legitimate reasons for having more than 1 field. For example, the reason you don't see the team practice everywhere on the field is because they have to maintain the field as well. They will practice on one part for several days then move to another part to allow the previous part to be maintained and repaired. With 2 full size fields that means they could conceivably run full length scrimmage on one field and then use the other for position drills. That way neither gets too worn down at one time.
Obviously teams are having an artificial turf for the case that they play in a dome and they need the extra practice for it.
I do think the argument could also be made that there is some correlation to winning when you also consider what Ballein had said about having the smallest coaching staff in the ACC. More of these "personnel development coaches" that other programs seem to have mean more one-on-one coaching with players at all depths, which means you need more space, which means you need more fields. Do you need 5? Again I have no idea, but after actually looking into what other programs have I believe now that we do indeed need more than 1.
In the end, I think the question is simply, will this help coaches improve players to be better? thus making the Hokies better. If the answer is yes, then we need them. If you're the only program that does not have these facilities does that mean you are right and in fact don't need, and everyone else is wrong? or that you actually do need them and you've compromised?

Technically he is a sophomore...and no Erick Greene does not count as a coaching redshirt season. Everything above may be true except for making it close with Michigan State or Syracuse, that wasn't in the cards, we lost by 19 and 20 respectively to those two teams.
As for the seniors producing, Eddie has done just fine. His moments of not being perfect stand out because he is all alone in regards to offensive production otherwise he leads the team in most offensive categories regarding scoring.
It didn't help that JJ named Emelogu Captain, regardless of his potential leadership abilities. I know I probably would have taken that as a slap in the face if I was a senior on the team. If I am the other players its also an indication that the coach doesn't have faith in his seniors to be the captain. What does that do to team morale? Did it play a role in the issues with Raines and Wood? As for Raines, its hard to produce consistently when you don't know if you are going to play on any given day. I don't know the specifics of JJ and how he keeps his doghouse but Raines has lived in it most of the season as has Wood. Whatever the specifics are, the way the punishment has been handled has been poor at best, downright irresponsible at worst.

Do they really "need" all those fields? The problem I have is that I cannot see any correlation or causation between "more practice fields equals more success." Boise (the last few years), Ark St., and ECU are all decent teams, but they're not top-notch.
I think this whole practice field issue comes down to how you use it. Our coaching staff will do whatever they want with whatever space they are given. If, for some reason, they run into a problem that is not met by the facilities, it will be fixed. But I strongly suspect that the plan got the OK from the guys who will be using it and they already know how their coaching styles will be affected.
UVA has a beautiful practice facility. They won zero ACC games last year and have been a joke for the better part of a decade. Their facilities are eye candy. What they "need" is better coaching.
This is my first post although I've been reading for years!!! I just had to chime in! Jummy Olabanji, current anchor of Good Morning Washington and WJLA 7 News at Noon, is a Virginia Tech alum!! She was my roommate for 3 years at Tech so I had to give her some credit :)
