Did anyone else feel sick watching Montrezl Harrell over the weekend dunking all over espn top 10 plays? I know i did.
I think the line will be okay. It will not be a strength of our offense and if we want to sit back and throw, it should be really good. If we want to run the damn ball, the oline better be pretty damn good. We were better than expected last year, but to me, that was a step up from mediocre. Put a playmaker at QB while we're still coaching up the line we need, and let's see how it goes.
We will have 3 capable tight ends to work with in the fall which could play an important factor in our success.

This is an incredibly hard question to answer. Gut reaction:
1. Saint Bud
2. All others
In reality, I think it has to break down something along the lines of:
1. Bud
2. Gray
3. Wiles
4. Loeffler
5. Moorehead
6. Stiney
7. Shane
8. Cornell
Bud is the clear #1. Without that man, I don't known what VT's identity would be. If Bud is the general on defense, Gray and Wiles are the trusted lieutenants. They are essential pieces to the puzzle and are damn good at what they do, so they're up next.
I put Loeffler at #4 because he has impressed me so far in showing vision and coherent play-calling. A few head-scratchers, for sure, but overall the offense will be running smoothly under Loeffler in no time. It's a toss-up among the next three, because they're all solid position coaches and have a huge hand in the quality of VT recruiting. I give the slight edge to Moorehead because he has transformed our WR crew from dropaholics in game 1 to a reasonably consistent unit with good fundamentals. He is a vocal and energetic recruiter. Stiney gets the nod next for playing the role of recruiting coordinator well, and his loyalty to VT and sense of family is something that our players rally around and love about him. Shane has a similar impact on the team, so he's next, but not far behind by much. Decent RB coach and excellent recruiter. Cornell is last, but when we're arguing over positions among these guys, all of whom are doing a good or great job, it's not really a bad thing. He has good energy and is a good position coach and recruiter.
I think Searles has the chance to be an excellent assistant coach, so we'll see in a year or two where he falls in. If our O-line continues developing toughness and starts to assert its will with more regularity, he could easily take a spot near the top. I am optimistic that he will do very good things here with the Hokies.
Eep. Idk if pie needs to be down at 99 but definitely below cake. Think about it, people throw pie at other people's faces. Not exactly a good sign if desserts are being thrown instead of eaten. Who ever heard of someone throwing cake (my parents wedding excluded)?

One season of good recruiting and moderate offensive improvement does not warrant a jump over one of the best defensive line coaches in the country.
If it's and but's were candy and nuts, we would all have a Merry Christmas......we have lost 8 games by 7 points or less. Take wins in those 8 games and we are 17-7. We have lost to the # 1 and # 2 teams in the nation and had opportunities in both games to make it close. We are starting most games with 3 freshman ( not red shirts) in the starting lineup, along with a sophomore and a senior. A freshman was named team captain because of his leadership ability. A freshman point guard is averaging 35 minutes a game and has got to be worn out. Wilson was terrible from the free throw line, but has improved tremendously. The two seniors on the team have not produced as expected and have not brought the positive leadership that is expected from seniors. Injuries? 3 possible starters ( Smith, Barksdale and Wood ) were out the last couple of weeks when some of the biggest losses occurred. Emelogu has been hurt, but shows great potential. But, there is improvement and things will get better. Even JJ is going to get better when he has a full team to practice and play with. Thompson is getting more minutes and is getting better. Wilson will improve tremendously by next year. Smith will be back. JVZ has his good days and is showing confidence. We have 3 recruits coming in next year. JJ deserves another year. He is the lowest paid coach in the ACC and as long as he retains the underclass players this year, he will get it turned around. Reminder - he is also a " freshman " this year.
Agreed, what he does with less is magical. Just imagine what he would do with 4/5 star players, in fact he turns 2 and 3 star players into 4 and 5 star players.

Maybe I'm imagining something but I could have sworn they said something about maybe making it so that they could open up the side of the indoor facility and extend both fields to 100yd if they wanted?

I absolutely can't rank anyone here because this past year I really can't find anything to knock much to have anyone lesser than another.
We saw excellent progress from everyone over the year. We saw good recruiting.
I can't rate that.
From what I have read, it is only going to be eight episodes and then next season will be a different story with a different cast.
I understand why they won't be able to get actors of the caliber of Harrelson and McConaughey to commit to multiple seasons and I guess the story arc probably won't allow it but wouldn't it be awesome if they could keep it going past 8 episodes? American Horror Story has made it work with different roles for the same actors.

The fourth highlight brought back memories of Tyrod for me. He escapes some pressure, spins, and is immediately looking downfield. I remember Tyrod doing the same, looking for Coale or Boykin. McMillian has a ton of athletic ability; can't wait to see what he can do.

A. everybody loses players. Are we bringing back everyone else's players too?
B. JJ was a coach, either HC or assistant, when these guys left. Keeping your players is part of the requirement if the job.
C. I'm not sure why we are still discussing JJ. We are a disaster, we've got a new AD, it's over. I can't fathom that the people who will make this decision are even considering keeping him. There is no reason to keep him. This has been a Stokesian run, and like Stokes, it's clear that it has run it's course.

I'm another Hokie architect and I really like this location. Keeps all the uses together and they will be able to use the indoor facility everyday. The adjacency if the indoor facility allows breakout groups to use it or for it to be used in any weather. Think of the use during extreme heat. I think this better integrates the indoor facility to daily use instead if relegating it to only rainy, cold days.
And at $20k+ for structured parking, that's just adding cost you don't need. VT has too much land to justify much structured parking.
JJ was at Clemson during part of the period where the players were evaluating staying with VT or moving on. Not sure he would have done much better but we'll never know the way it was (mis)handled. Using that as logic for dinging JJ is well ... illogical.
When you contemplate an action in life. You don't do it because you're piss** off or embarrassed or a disaster. Is that you Jim? You do it because you have a future contemplated that is better than other reasonable (possible/probable) alternatives. Is that you Jim? Are you hearing me Jim? Do you understand Jim? This isn't about your ego, or rather shouldn't have been. This decision impacts a whole lotta people besides you. Coaches, assistant coaches, players, all present and future.
I don't think it happens unless we spend a big shack of money to fix it right, for a good while. Football is tenuous right now for alot of the reasons that have to do with the ACC. We need to keep our assistant coaches despite a gap with current and prospective pay. Doing a half way with basketball and a couple of "whoopsies" in football is gonna make the whole VT apparatus appear to everyone the way it was run over the last 10 years. Pound foolish penny wise. As long as JJ isn't taking on water with assistants and recruits, I think he gets supported. Once we have a long term solution funded, JJ will have to have righted the ship or will then get removed. We're all huckin and shuckin and making it up as we go along. Its about the amount of risk we take on while we do it. We've been taking on too much risk for far too long and raising funds and prudently spending funds is the way to fix the situation. Times have changed. We are Virginia Tech. Too many of us didn't and don't believe that.
